Lately I have heard and felt a clicking noise in when I put my bike in neutral with the engine running. It sounds like it is not all the way into neutral. Is there an adjustment for this somewhere?

Just to make sure I understand the problem, you put it in neutral and release the clutch and it idles in neutral, hand off the clutch, foot off the shifter.

Which side of the bike is the mechanical noise coming from?

What is the frequency of the noise?

I'm with Geezer...which side of the motor is the noise coming from?

1 - How many miles on the bike?

2 - What is your idle speed?

3 - Does the noise abate when you raise the idle speed, even a little bit?

4 - Is the noise there when it's only cold? Only hot?

Anyone guess where I'm going with this?

^^^^ Boy, that was a tough one.

Johnny80s, a relatively easy check for cam chain tensioner condition can be found in my thread from last weekend here.

A loose cam chain is seriously bad juju, as anybody can tell you, even those of us who are not among the 2 that have had complete failure of the tensioner.

It only makes the noise when it is in neutral with my hand off the clutch. It does not make the noise when I pull the clutch in. I have 28k miles on the bike. It sounds like it is not fully in neutral and the gears are hitting. It stops making the noise if I pull in the clutch.

Oh, well, then. In neutral with the clutch lever released, the input shaft is spinning. You'll hear mechanical noises from the stuff spinning, but I'm not sure what a clicking would be coming from. I'm not sure I'd be too worried about it.

If the noise seems to be coming from the right side of the engine then I would perform the cam chain tensioner check as pointed to above. It's easy enough to do and can save you a lot of trouble.

The injectors are pretty loud on this bike, and the make a ticky sound that some have mistaken for 'the tick' that the Gen 1 bikes were prone to get, but you would have noticed that from new.

Is it a steady frequency or does it vary a little. CCT would likely vary a bit, while other things would be timed more exactly with the RPM of the engine.

What is your idle RPM?

Clutch basket????
Mine makes a little more noise like yours in the same conditions. Reminds me of my Duc.... except the Duc was real loud. I'm not doing anything about it but knowing it's there and listening if it gets worse or something else starts acting up with the clutch or gears.

Go back to sleep John....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I also forgot to mention you can feel the clicking. I should also say it is more of a clunking than clicking. It feels to me like a it is not all the way into neutral and almost falling back into gear.

OK, mine does NOT sound or feel like that. Hmmmmm. Could it be because you have an 07?

U & slappy. Ask Jerry if he has similar issue.
