Thanks for posting.I have a new '08 as well. I am expecting the bike to loosen up as the miles pile on (as is the case with all new bikes).

However, I will be pointing out my dissatisfaction with the clutch (and let them tell me to relax).

In my case it's the delay in clutch engagement from when the handle is pulled-in. Okay....time to shift...reduce throttle....grab clutch handle....wait....wait.....wait....finally clutch engages. It's more pronounced when cold, but sure seems out of spec regardless.
I have an 08 and the clutch is spot on. Sorry to hear about this. I would insist that the dealer corrects it immediately rather than waiting.
I also have an 08. I love the clutch on mine, no problems. Get a loud shift every now and then but still not bad.

If you haven't already, you might want to consider an extended warranty. I still can't believe Yamaha offers a 5yr unlimited mile factory warranty. That's a lot of faith in your product. For comparison I bough a 06 Yamaha TTR125 and it had a 90 day warranty. It was also unlimited miles too though :bike:

Can you tell me about how much the extended factory warranty costs? I am sure it's negotiable to some degree. Thanks, Joe

This is well covered under the New Members Read This FAQ along with lots of other useful information you're encouraged to read as a new member.

I guess I overlooked it the first time I read the newbie stuff. That's really a good pile of info on the FJR.

BYW, service manuals on the Yamaha site are currently $93, at least for the 07 and the 08 models. Didn't check for previous model years. (#9 in your forum guidelines indicates a price of $60)

Thank you for providing the forum.

2) He adjusted the throttle position sensor and throttle free play. (No more throttle uncertainty when going off and on the throttle, no more transmission slapping from throttle abruptness. Throttle feels smooth and certain.)
You can adjust the TPS? How? Please, someone educate me?

Right now my throttle is like a light switch when coming back on the throttle after a decel into a corner. When cold it's not so bad, but when the engine gets warmed up and running for a while it gets real snatchy in the transition from on / off throttle. If I can adjust this out it would be nice to know how.

I believe one of the items I have read on the form that helps to correct the abruptness is a different throttle tube. I am not sure how you adjust the TPS but I am sure a service manual would provide the instruction. What also played a BIG part in the throttle response was the removal of the free play. Mine seemed to have a lot of free play and now there is almost none.

You see how the TPS is set and whether it is within spec by accessing the diagnostic mode of you LCD info screen. You adjust the TPS by loosening the 1 or 2 screws and rotating it while in diagnositc mode to see where it's at.

BUT...........I'm fairly certain the TPS is not a cure for your ills. You need the G2 throttle cam and/or a Power Commander to solve your problem, which is not all that uncommon.
