Need a little advice from the all knowing forum. A local dealer has a left over '10. They are asking $12995 plus tax and registration. Is this to much? Should I offer less? Thanks in advance for the help. I am so looking forward to joining the collective.

Always offer less. You never know what will happen. If they are in Northeast I am sure they are going to want it gone as the 2012's are coming in.

I gave 13,500 for mine in Sept. of 10

I would try and beat on him a bit.

I would try for lower personally but you are starting to get into prime $ time :( ...dealers advantage. Leftovers or possible dealer auction bikes are reasoned w way more buying leverage in your favor.

2-mos ago I bought a new (0 miles) '09 AE that the dealer had crated, wheel'd n dealed w them for 2+weeks and settled for $11K +tax. Now even more in your favor is (was) the fact that it was an 'AE' model which retails for almost $2K more than the hand job 'A' model. Of course I wouldn't let the dealer convince me of the additional costs of the AE and played hardball and we both were happy in the end (well at least I was).

Why AE? I really didn't like it at first always wanting to squeeze w my left hand but the more I drove a friends '07 the more I got hooked. When I drove my Katana I only really used my clutch in 1st anyway so I figured why have it.

A local dealer here in Cambridge has carryover 2010's listed on their website for less than your price. I know from being in that dealership before that you can get a better price than the one listed on the internet.

I paid about $1000 less then that before tax and tags and all that for mine in the beginning of March.

Where do you live and are you willing to do a fly-n-buy or have it shipped to get a great price?

When I purchased my '11, I was working with a dealer in Florida. I could have purchased a 2011 for $11,500 plus tax and registration. I used that information to help me negotiate with a local dealer and got my 2011 for $12,500 with a VStream and break-in service included. After I figured in shipping cost and the extras the local dealer threw in, it was about the same price and I didn't have to worry about shipping damage. Perhaps I could have gotten a better deal, but the point is to try to find more than one dealer that has the bike you want so you can have them compete against each other for your business.

Do not use the AE price as a bench mark. The AE's (yes I'm a proud owner) typically sell for a few thousand less than the "A' regardless of the MSRP.

Shop around, then offer to buy from your local if they can meet or beat..

Thanks for the input everybody. Very helpful. I knew that was to high, just wanted to get a feel for what some others have paid. Unfortunately, due to an on going medical condition, I am unable to do a fly n buy. I've done em before and loved it. Gonna keep shopping around and get some more numbers to use in my negotiations. If anybody knows of any dealers in FL or S.Ga that have a good deal let me know. Thanks again.

This is the dealer in Florida that had a price of $11,500 (including fake fees, but not tax and title) on a new leftover 2011 when I was looking: https://www.cycletrad...R1300A-98661580. They're advertising at $13,999 now, but they might still come down to $11,500.
That's the dealer that has been selling the 2010's for $11,995. I checked with them today and the one they had a week and a half ago has sold.

I was there a couple months ago and they said they sold the bike but they continue to advertise it. They generally have about a grand in extra fees plus tax and tag.

They did sell that one but got another one. Sold it also. Then a week or so later I saw another one in the showroom. Asked them about it and they said they just got it the day before. Now its gone.

purchased a '10 from these guys:

https://www.mtn-motorsportstn.com/new_vehicle_list.asp?sid=1853579E-02X4K25K2012J9I36I48JPMQ1543R0&Manufacturer=2&Category=1&CatDesc=Motorcycles

last august for 10.800 screaming deal in my opinion.

i shopped around the southeast and offered to buy from whomever had the best deal.

had the cash but they financed for 65 months for 2.9%. was smarter to keep my cash.

I would buy from them again.

They have shops above Knoxville TN,

in Merietta and Conyers GA.

i will look for the card of the manager i made the deal with... he invited me to tell my friends to call them anytime and they will do their best to win your business.

Man I wish I found that to be true but it wasn't :( when I shopped this past winter and spring. Both (year wise) were pretty close give or take but NO way "a few thousand less" ...wish that was true however as I really could have stolen mine!

I guess it's evening out as the AE inventories dwindle.

In 2009/2010 we where stealing the AE's. Supply and demand heaviliy favored the buyer.. I paid 10,300 out the door for my new 2008 in late 2009... A few thousand less than the price a the A model it was sitting next to.

My point is... The dealership is not paying the same $$ for a 2009 old stock AE. You can't walk into a dealership with the thought process an AE cost this much below MSRP, I expect you to sell me an A model at the same 4K below listed MSRP. It's not a apples to apples comparison. Walking into your local dealership with a price for the same bike being sold cheaper at another dealership is apples to apples.
