Looks like Tri-Page has come up with something that could be useful.

They designed it for the FZ-09 but I asked specifically if it could be also used on the FJR.....

When changing signals to led's you create less of a load on the stock flasher relay and you will get "hyper flash" where the signals flash much faster than normal. This flasher relay will correct this and return your flash rate back to normal. Plug n Play on a number of motorcycles. This upgraded flasher relay also has 40 available flash options to choose from as well as a self cancelling feature. Max load for this flasher relay is 50watts per side or 50 watts total if you have hazard function. Any more than this the flasher relay will not function

Wiring:

Example of wired in flasher relay is 03-06 Honda 600rr Plug n play for 07-15 Honda 600rr, 04-15 Honda 1000rr, FZ09

Pretty sure this will change over. I believe the FJR has a 2 wire flasher relay. MANY of the new bikes have this flasher relay, or it can be wired in no problem.
Let me know what filament bulbs it has and we can see if it will work.
I am going to do a video with filament bulbs as well to show the effects.
We have led replacement bulbs, could get some nice led replacement for the FJR.

Might have quite the market there - though not much chance anyone will try to switch out the regular bulbs for LED's

Warpdrv,

If it sells at the advertised price of US$30, I would want that unit, instead of the OEM stock unit, just because it self-cancels. I would guess that the flasher self-cancelling feature works by time only, because cancelling by time/distance might be too complex. How long does it operate, when switched on, before self-cancelling? My 1985 Yamaha FJ1100 has self-cancelling turn signals, and that feature is a good one to have.

Availability for the relay is listed as Pre-Order, so there will be some waiting time before anybody sees one in hand.

Cheers,

Infrared

Infrared - yes its on pre-order.... I saw this thread on the FZ-09 forum and though there may be some interest here for the FJR, which was why I asked the question over there....

Here is the thread for anyone that would like to follow...

I'm pretty confident they are pretty close to release.

They already make plug and play LED Flasher relay replacement for the FZ / Yamaha Products, I think they are just adding in a timer for self cancelling... as well as different flash patterns.

Plenty of people already have these on their bikes.

Now - I am not sure 100% if the GEN 3 FJR has the signals built into the ECU, but I know the older models have the external relay.

I am 100% sure the GEN 3 flashes from within the ECU (well, actually the Multifunction Display), there is no separate flasher relay. GEN 1 & 2 use a conventional 2-wire flasher "relay".

The vendor posted the timeout options are 100, 150, 200, 150 cycles..... hmmmm. That just means it's on for a very long time before it quits. Also, can't use the hazard function since it won't handle more than 50 watts.

To give you a reference point, I have the Kisan Signal Minder which has 10, 20, 30 cycles. Most of the time, from my experience, 15 cycles will work if you signal 500 feet or so before a turn, 10 is not enough and you would have to activate again. So, I set mine on 20 and sometimes cancel it early, or just let it time out after the turn. I can use the hazard function, however it only works for the 20 cycles I have it set at. The Kisan has other features like being able to have the amber signals as running lights for greater visibility..... technically not legal some places, but I've never been questioned in 5 years.

Well since I no longer have a Gen 1 I don't have much interest in it...

Walter your welcome to contact them and see whats up, I'd make a suggestion to them about RaYzermans points. I'm sure there is no big deal changing to a different amount of cycles. its just programming for goodness sake... whether or not they will take the effort is the thing....

I am not looking for a replacement for canceling my flashers. What I am looking for is something that when I occasionally forget to cancel them it does it for me so 100 flashes isn't that bad. On the subject of the wattage of the lamps to take full advantage of the multiple flash modes you'd probably want to change your bulbs to LEDs so I don't think that 50W would be an issue.
