Hmmmmm... I've been jonesin' for sumpt'n new. That may fit the bill!

Although, belt drive in the dirt may be questionable...

My thoughts exactly. I enjoyed riding the Buells when I had the chance a couple of weekends ago. But I wouldn't take one adventure riding. That just looks like they tried to take the XB12 and then said "Hey, the R-GS is pretty popular, let's make ours look sort-of like that".

Yea,

I've ridden every model since and including the 1200 RR from before his mass prodution merge w/HD exept the blast, some with factory bags. They are a lot of fun but I wouldn't want to put in a log day on one.

"Barricade Orange" is one of the color options...

I don't think I need to ride any bike that has a color named after an object that I intend to avoid on a highway.

Doesn't "tour" involve two things?
Hard bags are available, and Buell reliability is quite good over the last couple of years.

Navigate to "Gallery" from here, and you'll see pictures with the hard bags installed:

Buell XB12S

Well MSRP is the same as an ABS FJR not including the extra $999 for the bags BUT it has helmet locks and a larger alternator (4 watts larger  ). :p :p

This new Buell also has an alternator with the same output as our FJR's have, and two powerlet-type electrical plugs built in - one in dash, and one under the seat.

The other new Buell is the XB12Ss, which is the same Lightning but with a longer wheelbase.

$13,199 MSRP 2005 FJR1300ABS

$11,495 MSRP 2006 XB12X

Doesn't look the same to me. Am I missing something?

Apples and oranges, for sure. I'm not comparing them, but I would not mind owning this Buell.

Compared to what? Other American V-Twins? That's like saying "He dances better than any other bear in the zoo."

Well, I don't know about that Rogue...let's see:

Buell + Tourer....

BU

TOUR

BUTOUR

Yeah, your right. The motorcycling community just isn't ready for a BUTOUR motorcycle.... :bleh:

On the serious side, though it is a good looking bike. Buells have always had that 'love it or hate it' styling...

I also would have reservations about the belt drive on an adventure tourer...pick up a rock, throw the belt, SOL on a trip.....maybe Erik & the gang have considered that & made a few design changes?

This is nothing more than a warmed over Buell streetbike. I can buy a brand new V-strom 1000 with hard luggage in these parts for around 9 grand out the door that I'm pretty sure would absolutley spank the Buell. I was hoping this would be a "breakout" bike (probably a poor choice of words) for Buell. What a disappointment.

What a cool looking brake...is BMW missing a designer? Am I the only one that read it as "Useless" at first glance...make that 2nd glance too... :D

The V Strom 1000 is a better choice for adventure riding, a little lighter too.

I always have loved the Buells, the styling appeals.

Has reliability really improved ? They had a bad rep for a long time.

Yup, reliability has improved dramatically (and yes, that is compared to a dismal rating earlier). Longer warranty as well.

I would certainly choose a BMW GS before this bike if I was to be doing lots of trail riding (and wanted to spend $3,000+ more), but I stay on pavement (most GS riders do too). I just like to be able to make it over/through the massive amount of road imperfections in NE Ohio. The Buell just looks cool to me. I have test ridden the Buell XB12S, and it was fun, but my buddy told me I looked like a circus bear on a tricycle. This Buell isn't so tiny.

My bro' just rode one up at Sturgis. He said it was a lot more comfy than the XB9SX, which he rode for comparison.

They took a guided tour on some back roads and he said that it was great on dirt roads, but wouldn't take off trail riding with it due to it's weight, tires and turning radius. It's not an enduro bike that's for sure.

I like the style and the three way "flipper" on the back. Being a slight techno-nut I've always appreciated "outside the box" type thinking ( yes I admired the GTS 1000 back in the day).

Bags and all it lists for $12,500 is what the Buell rep told my bro'.

:cownoy:

The raised bars, and 2 in longer wheel base should make it a bit more suitable for touring than the standard XB12. Is it me or does it look like there may be a bit more suspension travel too?
