Dell has never let me down. Great customer service and support. Get the 3 year extended warranty because as with everything computer related, the day after the warranty expires, you will need it.

Get a MAC. You wont go back.

+1 on the Mac
 another +1 on the Mac, no worries about viruses, worms, hackers. Much more intuitive. Operating system is much more

stable, no lock-ups, freezing or crashing that seems to plague Microsoft operating systems. Duo core processor can run microsoft software such as "Word".

I have the smallest DELL and largest HP laptops. Both are good machines. IMHO Dell makes a better machine and has way worse customer service. In fact, I have recently been convinced that when you call Dell's customer service, it actually just rings on some random public phone on a busy street corner in India. Whoever picks it up politely speaks broken English with you as long as possible and then "transfers you to the right department" by placing you on hold indefinitely until some other passerby picks up.

Thanks for all the information it is snding me in the right direction for a purchase.

Malve you are 1000% correct about the people answerinf the phones and especially when they say there name is George may I help you. :yahoo:

There are viruses, worms and hackers that have attacked the (comparatively limited) Apple customer base. Since there are only a handful of MACs out in the wild, they simply don't get the journalists ire like Microsoft products. Why are there Anti-Virus products out there for the MAC then? Linky

Since Apple has had complete and total control of the hardware, operating system and applications they are bound to be more stable. Apple does not really have to provide information or work with 3rd party hardware vendors on software driver releases for hardware compatibility. Microsoft built an OS (version after version) that would work on a wider variety of hardware. Apple builds their own (or at least rigidly controls) wireless access points and really limits their customers as to what can be done with their devices. Kudos for them for this. I don't own an iPod, a Mac or related peripherals. I simply can't afford them.

We'll see how the long-term strategy works with their Intel platform.

I work with Linux daily, I prefer it. I can do anything with it that I could with the last Winders and Mac OSx box I had. What it boils down to is choice. I like having a wider variety :)

I'm not here to rip anyone a part. I can make a Windows/Linux/Mac computer as secure as anything out there. It's diligence, just like riding; never let your guard down, use common sense and never point at anything you don't understand :)
