I recently discovered Corbin started making a two-piece seat which I think is totally awesome so I ordered one and am waiting for it. Come to think about it - too late - that there's this wonderful resource here that I should have consulted first!

I searched and searched and didn't find anything specific to the two-piece'er so, what do you folks think? Anyone here have one and care to share your opinion? I'm a bit, eh, say...eh... a little on the vertically-challenged side with a 28" inseam. Any thoughts on the riding position and height of this seat?

The 2-piece raises the seat height about an inch. I have the close canyon version and it drops you down about an inch. As my inseam is 35 inches, I didn't need it for leg room... but I like being lower in the seat.

Oooo...that's bad...might have to send it back to get it modified.

Wait a sec - are you saying the standard Corbin raises you 1 inch from stock, but the Close version drops you an inch from stock, or an inch from the standard Corbin?

I've got a 32'' inseam, and my legs get cramped after an hour or so - I need an extra inch or so in height at my age. ;)

The Close Canyon Dual Sport saddle is about one inch lower than the stock seat. I also moves you about an inch closer to the bars... which I really like! As I mentioned, the other version is about an inch higher than the stock... and I don't like it.

From the Corbin web site...

We now offer two models of the Canyon Dual Sport saddle for your FJR. Our standard version shown at the top of this page and a new "Close" version that provides seating closer to the bars and a slightly lower seat height. This is the perfect solution for riders that may have reach issues on this fairly large motorcycle.

If you're ever in the neighborhood, I'll let you take my saddle for a spin.

The new 2-piece Corbins look nice. Hopefully they are using a softer foam than I had on my 1-piece. I logged over 5000mi. on that one and it never did "break-in". I had my stock front saddle re-foamed by Sargent and that worked pretty darn well. I ended up with a Sargent World Class 2-piece saddle which I love. Got about 6000mi. on that one and it just keeps getting better and better. Good luck with the new Corbin. Looks like a nice setup......

I have a love/hate thing with Corbin Saddles...

Bought two for my '89 FJ1200 (solo and dual w/ backrest), neither that fit particularly well -and- they were hard. Corbin use to offer too many seats for too many brands and models and their quality control suffered greatly IMO. I even made an appt with a "wizard" and rode my old '90 Venture Royale up to their prior factory location for a custom made-while-you-wait saddle. Ultimately, it too was returned for unacceptable quality issues - at full refund and replaced with a custom Travelcade "Road Sofa" (gotta love that name and it was comfy like a sofa!).

Now there are more saddle maker choices with Mayer, Sargent, Russell and yes Corbin too. Riding TWN's bike last weekend for prox 35 miles, I found his Rocky Mayer's firmer and flatter (angle, not seat pocket) combined with taller effective height was far more comfortable, especially in balls-of-feet-on-pegs riding position I prefer.

I just launched web browser pics of all of the above (except Russell Day Long) and compared style and price. I do admit I like the styling of Corbin's 2-piece saddle. Unsure though if I'm willing to go down that path again given my prior experience. https://www.corbin.com/yamaha/yfjr13_mod.shtml

It seems to me that Corbin's build quality/reputation seems to rise and fall on no particular schedule. A friend of mine just bought one for an HD and it's excellant in both fit and comfort.. I think maybe that they may be on an upswing again after alot of scathing reports about quality and customer service. One of the the most comfortable seats (Corbin) I ever sat on was on my FJ1100 as seen below. Wished I coulda' kept that one.

Picked it up today from SportTour.com. Great place to do business...

My first impression (after a whole 5 miles of riding) is that it is very comfortable despite being hard. It's definately not a 'road sofa' like some others might be. As for seat height and position...that's gonna be a problem.

It must an inch or more higher than the stock seat which for me is a real problem. I'm gonna live with it for a few weeks but if it doesn't settle, I'm goning to have to have them lower it a little.

It also places you about an inch or so further aft which could be a problem for me on long rides. We'l see.

It's very nicely built and I think worth the money.

Is the seat really "higher", or is it simply wider which has the same felt effect? My one piece was wider which made it tougher to get the boots down on the deck.

Could be that it's just wider. I didn't measure it. The net effect is the same...more air under das boots!

I had the Sargent and it just wasn't right for me and resold it to a club member. I got the Corbin 2 piece w/ the heat option for Christmas. I love it! Best Corbin I've ever had. If you get the heat option, there is more saddle padding. I went for their Smuggler instead of the passenger seat. Other that an awful color match it works and fits well. I'm not really sure if I noticed a height difference w/ the Corbin.

I just returned it and am looking to see if they can do the one-piece close with a 'nose job'. Corbin's site claims it sits at 31.5" which is the stock height. I haven't heard back whether they (the dealer) will take it back 'cause technically it's used...

We'll see. If they won't take it back, anyone care to make an offer on a brand-new seat?

The guys at Sporttour are the best. They took it back and ordered me a one-piece close with a 'nose job'. I only sat on it for a total of about 20 minutes so it's still new.

For what it's worth, they're really great to do business with. They're website isn't as detailed as some others but they're like any dealer, they can get anything you want in a day or so.

BenneyB, yeah it's definately higher and the 'pocket' is a little further back though not a whole lot...

I think the new Corbin coming out has a gel insert that should help eliminate the breakin problem. Just my $.02 worth. PM. <><
