Ride home should see our average miles pick up because we are hightailing it home. S76 said enough flower sniffing!

Short ride today to CO92 along the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Just outside Crawford we took a ride down a dirt road called Needle Rock to see a volcanic plug.

We left Montrose after breakfast and were on the road at 0615 hours. I didn't want to see the traffic leaving the hills on a Sunday afternoon. Seems every road out of the mountains along the front range gets clogged with cages on summer Sundays.

We didn't escape Colorado without a chat with a Sheriff on the Colorado high plains on a little back road. I always go the speed limit, but that hoodlum S76 was apparently practicing low altitude flying behind me.

The Sheriff asked "where is the fire boys"

I said "we are just trying to keep up with the traffic"

The Sheriff yelled "THERE IS NO TRAFFIC"

I calmly replied "See we have a lot of catching up to do"

The Sheriff said "get out of here and keep it to 9 over"

S76 may have a different version of what was said, but that's my story.

Out of the high plains we stopped near lake Wilson and high heat with humidity.

I woke at 0300 to check the weather and saw our route through Kansas City Missouri underwater. They had a foot of rain! I went back to sleep. We left late at 0600 and found light rain with the storm parting to either side of our route I70. I felt like Moses was with us and parted the seas. Flooding everywhere except high up on the highway.

Fun day out of Colorado and then two slab days and we are home safe.

Counter clockwise

Moving average was 666 so I told S76 we had to wick it up a bit to get out of the devils number

MrBill, since you always keep it to the speed limit, how is it that your max speed starts with a "1"? I don't teach math, but the averaging thing is something I can accomplish!!!

Who couldn't say that you took the FJR on a track day or at the drag strip??!!

Any who, love the report, pictures and dialog. It is good stuff.

(Oh yeah, you forgot to cover the max speed in the other picture above, but I won't tell)

His max speed was in kilometers per hour

Hey Wheatie,

It started out shiny. I like to leave the bugs on so it looks like I've been somewhere!

Lost the bugs in the Kansas City rain ⛈
