Beautiful dog, I REALLY love labs. Here is our pride and joy - Pepper. She is 14 months old and a never ending ball of energy. We were raising her to be a guide dog for the blind, but she had a health issue that thwarted that effort. So we get to keep her. Good thing she can't get near my bike because it might look like Johns table.

Griff, Pepper is beautiful! Isn't it so amazing how our totally loved and spoiled rotten Labrador Retrievers can tear up our **** and make a grand mess: Then they give us their patented "Lab Look" and all is forgiven, Sneaky Bastards! jes' sayin' and nuff said, right Oso!

Great thing about labs is that after a mere 8 years or so they grow out of their goofy puppy stage and then they are only mildly goofy adults. We got our last lab from a rescue organization. Had been abused for his first year of life. Took just a few short days for him to put that behind him and revert to the typical devoted, loving and goofy lab. Yes, yes... I did hunt down and "sanction" the abuser.

There's a FJR Forum Member who refers to my Labbie Oso as a "Buffoon"! But what do you expect, she's one of those Weird Golden Retriever People! JSNS!

And, believe me, the blind are very grateful for their dogs. My mother went blind at about 58, had three guide dogs, all Labradors. Kept her independent for 20-odd years. So, thank you.
Ps. Don't you find it a bit of a downer when you have to let them go?

Pps. She always had a cat, the cat was always in charge.

It was sad to let her go, after raising her for 10 months to be a guide dog. But we were notified after only two weeks at Leader Dogs for the Blind that she had a soft trachea condition that would not allow her to adequately handle a harness. So we had the option of letting Leader Dog place her somewhere else or us taking her back. No brainer there!! We were disappointed she didn't make it as a guide dog, but we have a pretty well trained dog now.
