New FJR Riders From MA

While I was stopped at the Washington, NH general store having lunch I heard the sound of an FJR coming up Route 31. Most bikes are just on there way through town as the route is popular with bikes, especially on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon. Well, to my surprise they pulled in. I figured I must know them from the forum. He said he doesn't post much, mostly reading all the valuable insight from riders who've had their FJR's longer then them. Anyway, here is Jeff and Sue on their '07 from Westford. MA. He said his previous bike was a sport bike and he was enjoying the creature comforts of the FJR. I gave them a route suggestion of some nice twisties (route 123A/RT 123) and they were off.

The best way to access RT 123 is to start in the town of Hancock, NH. Be sure to stop at The Fiddleheads Cafe for fresh baked goods and drinks.

Take RT 123 north toward Stoddard. You'll use RT 9 east for a mile or so and then back onto 123 up over Pitcher Mountain with views of VT off to the west. Take RT 10/123 north into Marlow and back onto 123 into Alstead, home of the devastating floods of 2005, whose scars can still be seen. Take RT 123A out of Alstead headed east back out to RT 10. Those sections alone will have you grinning from ear to ear and think you've stumbled onto a Moto-GP course, although a bit bumpier. Once out onto RT 10 go north to Rt 31. Take RT 31 south headed towards Hillsboro, NH. On the way down RT 31 you'll ride through the village of Washington, named after our first president. From Hillsboro grab your map and wend your way back home.

I'm in the planning stages of putting on an FJR ride taking in scenic back roads and the fall foliage. I'll post up when I get it together.

Around early October sounds like when I was planning this ride. Most likely Oct. 11th. We'll keep you posted Gypsy. We had a fellow Canadian (Quebec, I believe) on our Bridges ride last fall.

Man, it sounds like it's time to try the NEFOG thing again. Nice to see more FJR riders in our little corner of the country. Of course this includes the maritime canukians too. Fall is my favorite riding season in these parts. Nothing better tha New England in the fall.

I can see my wife's response when I tell her about this ride, as I will have just returned from the September CFR. My "good husband" credits (brownie points) will be way into the deficit region! (She has to stay at home with kids!)

If you put 'em in the sidebags just right, the little buggers will fit. Just make sure you got the bags lock-tite and put on appropriately or the wife could get REALLY pissed, Sull! Skip- if the ride is set for the 11th, I'm in!

Oct. 25/26 Sat./Sun.
