I cant beleive no one has mentioned FZ1 mirrors and the WynPro kick stand puck...sliders you mentioned, but those two, for safety reasons, are essential IMHO.
Why are the mirrors so critical in your opinion? Thanks.
Because seeing whats behind you, with a wider view, without having to tuck your elbows every time, is essential IMHO. Its easy to think "Hey, I'll just tuck my elbows". But an aware rider should be checking his 6 often enough that if you tucked your elbows everytime, you might just take off in flight! Perhaps others will chime in, but I thought the same thing...until I put the FZ1 mirrors on mine. Then I realized how much I was previously missing.

My wife and I ride two-up all the time. We are pretty decent size people but one thing that is a must above all else is a custom seat. We have a Russell Day-Long and we both love it. The only other mods I have are the Yammy Tall windshield put on by the origianl owner (I love it) and a cruise control (audiovox). 24K miles later we are both still smiling. Wifey don't know it yet but a new suspension is coming soon.

For solo riding, I don't mind tucking my elbows to see behind me with stock mirrors. But when the wife is onboard, tucking my elbows only allows me to see her. With the FZ1 mirrors, I can see what's behind us! Here's more info:

I hated the stock shield due to horrible buffeting when it was raised. I now run a Vstream in the winter and a Cee Bailey +2 high, stock width, flip (don't even consider a non-flip version) shield in summer. I haven't heard a lot of good about the Yamaha touring shield.

Spend some time on the forum and eventually all will become clear. Welcome aboard.

What is this "flip" that I hear a lot about? Do you mean the reverse contour shield?

Exactly. The top 2 inches of the shield "flip" up and this seems to make the shield act like it was 2 inches taller due to the airflow being directed up.

Cool, thanks. I just bought the Yamaha Touring windshield from a forum member here... it was only $70 so I couldn't say no. I hope it works for me. A friend of mine just bought the Cal Sci windshield for his bike. It will be interesting to compare the two. If neither mine nor his do the trick, then I'll spend the $$ and try the flip.

HA -- where to start???

First for me is that the stock seats suck. Probably a Sargent or Corbin if you aren't going to get a Russell or Mayer custom seat yet.

Second is suspension upgrade -- front and rear -- set up specifically for you, considering pillion, loads and your anticipated uses. You may not be able to see and admire its flashiness, but IMO, it's THE single most important upgrade after your butt is comfortable. The two "go to" places: GP Suspension in Oregon City (just south of Portland OR) and Traxxion Dynamics (in Georgia or one of the Carolinas, IIRC). I have Traxxion's AK-20 and a Penske on my Blackbird, and GP's front plus their rebuild of a Wilbers shock my FJR. Both are superb.

Pazzo levers. It ain't the bling, it's the ergos.

GPS by Garmin -- must be waterproof, should be integrated into your sound system so it can give you audible directions on cross country adventures.

Alex's saddlebag stickers/decals. They look black on the inner part of the bag, but at night when lit by a car approaching from the rear, they're reflective and light up.

Headlight lens covers by Cee Bailey.

Clear tank protector stick-ons by ??? to protect the sides and back of the tank from wear against the rider's pants.

You already mentioned communication system, sliders and top case.

Bar end weights to further reduce any vibration -- several makers, but Top Gun seems to be about the heaviest.

4-2-1 by Muzzy with "Quiet Core" and Dynojet PC for FI mapping. Just because more power is always nice.

Helmet locks by ??? (thinking the maker I got em from is out of business now).

BMW ribbed grips.

Superbrace fork brace.

Radiator guard to avoid damage to radiator at such inconvenient times as Murphy might select. Front Fenda Extenda for even more such protection.

Powerlets for heated gear and battery charging.

Depending on leg length of pillion -- rear foot peg extenders and/or floorboards for rear pegs.

Radar detector -- Escort or Valentine 1 -- hooked into audio system.

Spot tracker in case you don't show up where you're supposed to when you're supposed to.

Bungie Buddies for a couple extra tie down spots.

Angled valve stems for more convenient tire pressure checking and filling.

V-Strom hand guards for the cold and rain.

THERE -- that oughta keep you busy, poor and in trouble with the significant other for a while! :p :D :D
