Can anyone tell me where I could find documentation on the one use nature of the FJR Head Bolts. Desert Motorsports in Scottsdale will be fixing my 04 ticker, but are insisting that the head bolts can be reused.

I would appreciate any help

I am a born again tick be gone owner. You need new head bolts, end of story. If you need to argue this with your mechanic, your in the wrong dealership I'm afraid. Move on now before they tear into your baby! I refuse to deal with anyone anymore who insists on something that they know absolutely nothing about.

I know exactly where the dealership is your talking about.

Here is the tick "Technical Service Bulletin" from Australia.  Please notice the sentence at the bottom of the bulletin about the head bolts.

Motordog1, print the bulletin, the ask the tech writer/service manager/mechanic to "Please call his tech rep". Polite actions on your part will assuage his having to defend his earlier position.

Motordog1 in Section 5 page-21 it states "Do Not reuse the cylinder head bolts".

That's from Service manual LIT-11616-FJ-02 (FJR1300A©/AS/S/SC).

Thanks all for the info. I will provide a copy of ht TSI and the location in the service manual where the head bolts are discussed. I couldn't find any dealerships in the Phoenix area that had worked on tickers. Desert Motorsports seemed to be as good a choice as any. They had not had a ticker in their shop before me. When they called Yamaha they were told to check for signs exhaust valve leakage as evidenced by deposits on the the far side of the valve guide as observed through the exhaust ports. Such deposits were evident and Yamaha authorized the valve replacement. The head work will be outsourced and the work will be done in-house.

Thanks again for the info

That stupid freaking dealer should know better. Its in the freaking service manual for crying out loud. They should KNOW how to do it right. It is not the responsibility of the custiomer to educate the freaking dealer. They are the experts after all. Just ask charismaticmegafauna! :D

I would have gone with Apache Yamaha. I have no experience with them whatsoever, however, I have heard good things about them. The big thing to me is they are "5 star certified", so if anyone is tearing apart my baby, hopefully a 5 star certified dealer knows WTF they are doing. Unfortunately, Desert Motorsports sounds like they don't. But then what would you expect from a Snottsdale dealership? Are they part of the Arizona Powersports network? I am assuming they are, in which case there is no way they or any of their other dealerships would ever touch any of my vehicles.

Is it too late to change dealerships?

Dude, you should have come on here and asked for advice before taking the plunge. Would have saved you some time and angst. Good luck. Be sure to keep us updated.

Apparently?....some are, ...uhm?.... more "expert" than others?

Well, if or when I ever need to do it, I'll do it myself. They are torque yeild bolts that are set at 180 degrees after reaching a preliminary torque for proper bolt stretch and are non-reusable. If the dealer can't figure that out, go somewhere else.
