Last year on the way home from CFR, I decided to (finally) document a long ride, and pushed from Thunder Bay ON to Medicine Hat AB - about 1800-odd kms. Would have made it home to Calgary but lost both headlight bulbs just after dusk. Anyway, sat on the paperwork for ages before finally getting around to sending it in to the IBA.

Just got this email from Mike Kneebone :)

"Dear Jeff Griffiths:

You are receiving this e-mail because of your application for a ride certification. This note is to let you know that your ride has been

approved and although your ride documents may take a few more weeks to arrive, your membership has also been approved and entered into the

Iron Butt Association's member database.

Welcome to the Iron Butt Association!"

:yahoo: ... reckon the next step is getting my feet wet in a rally :)

Congratulations! There's something special about having an IBA number IMO because you have to earn it; not just send in $$!

I'm terrible about documenting my rides too

Good on ya Griff!! :clapping:

One of these days I gotta get off me ass and send my stuff in.
Bust, just wait till after the 1st of the new year to send in your documents.

at the rate the IBA is growing you'll be getting a 6 digit number.

Congratulations!

Congrats.... :clapping:

I ran into Jennyfer and Jacques at a fuel stop in Montmagny during the second leg of last year's IBR (on my way back from CFR in Freddy), and I think that encounter is what finally pushed me to actually document a ride and get it registered. I've been thinking about trying to join the "Eh Team" and getting into the rally world, although I'm still not sure that the IBR will ever be in the cards. I mean, I climbed mountains, but never had any ambitions to do Everest, if that analogy make sense?

I have been looking for a way to get my feet wet in a rally close to home, which is proving difficult since the demise of the Alberta 1000. Closest seems to be the Big Sky in Montana, so maybe that's an option... :dntknw: Either that, or organize something in Alberta or BC to replace the AB1000. In any case, I reckon the only way to know for sure if I'm gonna like rallies is to actually do one.

Very cool.....Jennyfer and Jacques are good friends of mine.....small world eh? We would love another member in the Eh Team! Try out a rally or two and I am sure that we can send you one of the "limited edition" Eh? Team stickers for your bike.... looking forward to having you on the team!

Yeah, very nice folks. I was asking them about another friend (Cletha, aka "queenb" who was doing her first IBR (on a 650 BMW no less!). We crossed paths a few years ago during the 3 Flags.

We saw quite a few IBR riders headed east on AUT20 as we were headed west past Quebec City. By all accounts the format for the 2011 IBR was a big success, and much more challenging than it appeared to be at first glance.

I'll look into a few western regional rallies and see if I can work one into next years schedule.
