New ignition switch/tires = new wobble

O.K. here's the deal. Took FJR in for ignition switch recall plus new Shinko Raven tires, all's well, everything looks good. On the ride home I notice a bad steady speed wobble starting at about 50. I never had that before, so back to the dealership I go. Has to be Shinko front tire I think. I talk dealer into new front tire so they install Shinko Podium this time, still wobbles. This dealership has a slightly used FJR on the floor so he takes front wheel (with tire) from dealership bike and puts it on my bike, you guessed it, still wobbles. O.K. now the mechanic is fraustrated. He puts the rear wheel (with tire) from dealership bike on my bike. Now I have both front and rear wheels from dealership bike on my bike, oh crap, still wobbles. So he moves on to fork bearings. All seems right. He is in the process of removing the forks as I speak. I will report what I find out. What's up with this. Thanks for listening.

And that's why i change my own tires. I can screw it up myself AND didn't have to pay anyone.

 
It may not be the answer to your problem, but check them nuts and bolts at the other end of the forks. The bars and upper tree had to come off for the switch replacement. There's also been bad mojo reported about it all getting put together properly after recall servicing.

 
Update:

Shop calls and says the only thing that it can be is the head bearings need replaced, do I want to do that. I say no, put it back together. They have not called telling me it's ready to go, so maybe i'm being punished for not spending the money. Anyway, they are convinced it is not tire related since both tires were swapped with another bike, but they did not let me ride it while all the tire swapping was going on so I don't know if anything felt different. They tried different torques on head bearings (supposedly) and it did not solve the problem either. Keep in mind it was perfect before and the only thing they did was put on two new tires and change out the ignition switch. Any thoughts?

Don't really know but would the compression and rebound setting do this if they were not set the same on both sides? Maybe one got screwed in or out while the switch was getting replaced. Just a thought..........

 
Sounds like the forks were not properly aligned in the triples. I've had that happen on a dirt bike before and it would get very unsettled above 40 MPH. They don't have to be off very much.

 
Well, it could be that the head bearings got damaged if they had an inept tech. do the ignition switch replacement.

 
update:

Picked up the bike after a day of them screwing around with it. It seems fine to me, just a little shake on decel around 50 or 55 mph (without hands). I think it is just the tires I chose to put on it. The first front tire they installed (replaced later)was the main problem. The shop was trying to get every bit of decel shake out (and some money recooped) . I will run the bike, and it will be fine until new tire time. Thanks for comments,

The decel wobble will come and go dependent upon tire profile, pressure, suspension weight bias etc. You're on the right track now.
