I ordered all the parts to build Brodie's ignition relay this winter ... (note of thanks to Brodie for that selfless post that included all the part #'s and web locations) ... but now the recalled ignition switch seems beefy enough to handle the load should I really bother with construction and installation of the relay? Is it really needed?

Make it simple, pay Brodie and he'll send you a first class relay harness. It's worth every penny to not have the power go through the contacts in the ignition switch. I have both Brodie's harness and FJRandy's horn relay harness for my Magnum horns. Both are first class products.

Besides, you'll get Tootsie Rolls too!

You have the components, go ahead and build the Ignition Relay Harness. Make sure the recall ignition switch is installed to your standards, then put your new Ignition Relay Harness in the circuit. Your bike will be complete!

...and you will have full bragging rights

I built that!

I'm afraid you'll have to supply your own Tootsie Rolls.

My bike has the recall ignition switch. We worked hard to help convince Yamaha to do the right thing.

Of course many thanks to Brodie for working out the issue and coming up with THE FIX. SO everyone knows I got #21 a true collectors item. (With Tootsie Rolls TYVM) :yahoo:

I was so impressed with Brodie's solution and the quality of his relay I put one on my Gen I, even though NO Gen I has had a documented switch failure that duplicates the reason the relay was built.
