So I have been watching the threads on recall for the ignition switch and I don't think anyone has actually answered as what or if there is any difference in the new parts. I know they change out the guts but are they more robust or just the same?

The new style switch has a yellow ribbon on the wires near the switch.

Why don't you call yamaha customer service.

I took my 06A in to the shop today. 24K and no real serious problems to date, but why not get it done.

Recall says you will be able to use your original key. Cycle shop guys said no initially and when I was there I showed them my letter stating that. He pulled service bulletin and read through it. Though said ignition switch comes with 2 keys and a new tumbler, the bulletin says to swap out the old tumbler to use the original key. The parts seemed well made and robust, but without taking them apart and directly comparing, who knows what is different from the original? Mine were back ordered for about a week or 2 and they called me when they came in. I have had some occasional electrical dropouts, but have always been able to get it restarted. Was this part of a dirty sludged up ignition switch? I don't know. It was not often, but I will report back a little while after I get it back to see if it completely stops. I wonder if they will give me the new tumbler and matching keys when it is all said and done? OR will they keep them for future shop use or do they send them back? Anybody?

Yeah, how about it? I have been waiting for someone to post up some pics and a decent comparison between the new and old switch. Just out of curiosity, of course. I fully intend to get mine swapped out once the weather breaks (getting toward the end of ski season) but there was mention of someone posting pics of the new switch. How exactly did they upgrade the switch? Simply adding a yellow ribbon around the wires near the switch is not an improvement, is it? And what's the verdict on the "Brody FJR Ignition Switch Relay" with this new switch? I'm thinking I might as well install one with it.

I picked my bike up today.

Whats new.

If done correctly

You get a whole new ignition, not just a bottom half as previously reported.

The only thing that is original would be your tumblers so your key remains the same.

This is as per Nick At the Famous D&H Cycles

I get mine done this week. Since I've already had to repair mine, I'm not afraid to take the new one apart. I'll tear it apart and take pictures.

NO,.... it's for IDENTIFICATION!!! It's because from the outside, you won't be able to tell the difference between the old and the new style switch. And it remains to be seen if one can see any difference on the inside.

Took a day to replace and the mech told me he could have replaced the tunbler but I would have to carry around another set of keys. Not worth it to me. The tumbler seems to be working fine.

On a side note , I seemed to have picked up some new scratches ..... free of charge. *******s!!
