New owner (in 1 week and 12 hours)

I am new to this forum and to the Feejer family but extremely excited, thus the lack of sleep the last few nights. I am picking up the bike (07 1300A) in California next week with the intention of driving it back to Utah.

I am hoping the weather gods will be good to me and the wife! Still early in spring and we are often in the 40 -50s. Ordered the hand grip warmers to be installed at dealer.

I am also concerned with the break in period as the drive home is just over 600 miles. Any suggestions? Would it be wise to drive out and haul it back?

The only reason buying so far away is the deal, saving over $600 in shipping to pick up.

If you feel good about the deal that is all that matters. I would keep the speed below 75 and try to vary your speed as much as possible for the first hundred miles or so. If possible I would take items to change my oil after the first 25 miles. Other than that you should be ok.

I would take Spridal's advice, except about the oil change. A 25-mile oil change wouldn't hurt anything, but I would ride it home, and change oil when I got there.

Dress for cool temps. It's better to be prepared, than freeze the wife.

That ride is half the reason I am getting the bike. Not to brag about my location but within a couple of hours I can be in rolling farmlands, at the top of a mountain range or in the red rocks of the desert. Unfortunately we don't have as long a season as others so we take what we can get.
