I just picked up my new Samsung Instinct from Sprint yesterday. Looks just like the Iphone, but on a fast network. Lots of other goodies that the Iphone doesnt have and your not forceo use that crappy Itunes garbage. If your into cool toys, this is right up your alley! :yahoo:

Phone price is all over the place depending on if your a current customer and if your elegable for an upgrade. If you've been with Sprint for at least 2 years and your contract obligation is up then the the phone is only $229, after 30 days they issue you a 100.00 rebate so the total cost is only $129.00. They only offer 2 service plans one is 79.99 the other is 99.99 a month. for 99.99 you get unlimited evrything including GPS. My service was a little more complicated because I own a business and added this phone on to an exsisting account. You'll really have to call Sprint for cost depending o your situation. I know that they sell the phone with no service contract for almost $500.00

I'd have to see it before passing final judgement but in reviews it looked close but not quite there....especially compared to the new iphone coming out for $199

I've had a few days to play with this thing now and really love it. I've been checking the reviews and they seam to be a bit bias in favor of the Iphone. The new Iphone 3g, in my opinion, is what Iphone should have been from day one. As for which is better I really think thats up to the end users choice of bells and whistles. For me, if the new Iphone were offered on my carrier along side the Instinct Id take the Instinct. They both make calls. The Iphone has a slicker user interface but not by much. The instinct screen works very well and is very slick also. The Iphone has wifi, very cool but it doesnt support Bluetooth A2DP for stereo bluetooth. I use my phone at the gym every day for music and the wireless headset :headphone: out ways the wifi for me. Both phones are on fast networks and living in a metropolitan area the wifi really isnt that important as I always have strong 3g service. I had 2 phone previously, the PPC 6600 and 6700 that both had wifi and when sprint started offering CDMA service I opted out of wifi as it just wasnt needed any more. The fact that apple has insisted on using itunes as the only way to transfer and organize music on there Ipods and Iphone is enough to keep me away. Being able to drag any mp3 to my device and just play it is great. I dont need big brother babysitting my music to make sure I dont share a song I paid for with my kid. Apple made a great impression on non tech people with the ipod and there ignorance keeps them comming back for more. So for me thats another huge advantage for the Instinct, no software needed for music and video exchange, just drag and drop. I can plug into any pc and done. I think that Samsung came out with a far better product then the origonal Iphone and now Iphone is answering back with an updated Iphone. I'm just glad I'm not one of the poor people that rushed out to get an Iphone for 5 or 6 hundy just to have ATT ofer a better version for less then 1/2 the price in less then a year. What a slap in the face! I'd be going ape **** if that happened to me. :headbonk:

Rondo,

What do you use for email? (exchange server, pop, etc)

How is the web browser on the new instinct?

How much storage does the phone have and can you add an external card?

I might just wait for the next version of the blackberry, sounds like it will be pretty slick.

I use pop, it works great. It can also do push mail from exchange server. I admin an exchange server at work and will try it. I really dont want my business mail comming to my phone so it wasnt a priority.

The web browser is nice. Always land scape. You move around the pages like the Iphone. just push it around with your finger but you cant expand it with 2 fingers like the Iphone. There is a zoom though. I'm pleased with the browser. It supports Java well and My online banking BofA works too.

The phone only has 32MB of internal Mem and the OS takes up 5mb. It comes packaged with a 2gig Micro SD card and is expandable up to 8gig. It also comes with 2 batterys and an external charger for the spair Battery, very sweet.

Looks great, but, with the dropped calls and ******* coverage that Sprint has, all they're doing is polishing a turd.

I agree with that. If I didnt have 4 business lines with Sprint I probably what of bailed a long time ago. I moved to Sprint years ago because they always had the most high tech gadgets and I love gadgets. There service has never been great. Its solid where I live but actually sucks in my new home that I moved into a year ago. So frustrating, I can walk 50 ft out into my front yard and 5bars. In the house, anywhere it jumps from 0 to 2 bars and I drop calls all the time. The Instinct is doing much better in my house then my previous 2 phones did. Yes this is my 3rd phone in a year! Like I said, Gadget Guy here. So far no dropped calls and signal has been floating between 1 and 4 bars. If I did any travel Sprint would be out for sure.

Coverage all depends on your location. I have Sprint and I can ride one of my ATV's a hundred miles into the Arizona desert and my Sprint still works perfectly. Although I tend to think all of the cell phone companies are raging rip-off artist.

Nothing will ever be a iPhone killer unless it works with iTunes libraries. And as Apple won't allow that, it will be an iPhone for me. I have way too many songs to convert them all. Glad I waited for the 3G one, though.

And bash on Apple all you want, they still make the products everyone copies.

EXACTLY!!!! APPLE WONT ALLOW THAT!!! Great reason to be dedicated. Your not an Apple fan, your a captive. :dribble: Apple preyed upon the ignorant and wrapped it up in a pretty package, the IPOD. Yes, others are copying there devices, there beautiful, Im thrilled that I can buy an IPOD LIKE devise and just dump my collection of mp3, mp4, wma, avi, mpeg, ........ right on there and enjoy them. I dont need to bash Apple when there fans are out there doing it for me.
