New pricing from Yamaha for '12 in Canada

Yamaha drop prices

Seems our beloved 2011 FJR which sold in Canada for $20,000+ last year has seen a retail price drop for 2012 down to $16,999. Nearly $4000!

WR250R (sorry, it makes my pants sticky), dropped a full $1000.

Bunch of models with very significant price reductions. Go take a peek.

(Now only if they'd bring back the 2004 FJR....)

Now just thinking (dangerous) how about the people that have already bought a 2012? maybe a rebate?

I made a deposit for a 2012 just before Christmas, dealer price is $15,600, waiting to take delivery in April.

While the MSRP for the FJR was $20K, I can;t imagine that anyoine has actually paid that much, given that there have always been incentives on the rpduct line.

Back in '06 the machine retailed for $18.,895, so retail pricing rose about $1,200 in the intervening years, but it comes with the heated grips that make up for some of that difference.

As well, the Canadian dollar has strengthened considerably against the US dollar, so those asking prices were completely unrealistic.

Of course, demand for these machines has dried up with the economic downturn and the fact that there are less expensive, more modern competitors out there with more features.

And they have removed all of the sales incentives from the site.

Then again, back in '06 I paid $16,650 for my ride with a 3 year YPP (which I eventually extended to 4 after paying the difference) AND a $500 Yamabucks certificate that paid for my OEM foot guards and.for something else (II can't recall what it was right now). So as far as I'm concerned it is still more expensive today than it was then - but now they come with heated grips.

Then again, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the '06 and '12 beyond the black bezel surrounding the gauges.

Their must be some sort of factory rebate for existing inventory back to the dealers. What's really stupid, is they still have the 011's listed for $20+! on there website. Now imagine if you bought an 11 a few months back at near full pin... how pissed would you be?

I was a the Calgary motorcycle show today. I heard Yamaha Canada is no more (as a corporation at least). The Canadian distributorship is done through Yamaha USA now. Better buying power for both now. Its about time. We were totally getting Fu#$$ed up here by Yamaha Canada. Parts for my YZ were usually 100-200% higher at the dealership then online retailers in the States. I called Yamaha Canada last year to ask why and I got this bull$hit line about buying power and that Yamaha Japan was not selling the FJR to Yamaha Canada for as good of a deal as to Yamaha USA. But 25% more? Come on. What a bunch of BS. Good riddance Yamaha Canada.

Wow that is a huge price change . I cant belive the FJR is so much up north of the border.

I know dealer cost down here for a 2012 unit is 13,642 . I bought my unit ( 2012 model ) for 14,600

with prep/ freight in that price . Then paid Tax / title / license to the state of another 900 n change .

There is a dealer here with a new old stock 2009 FJR selling for 12,995 Out the door after taxes

I also can't believe how much we get taken on the cost of bikes up here! It's about time that they started to drop the price. If they want to sell them they are going to have to do something. Now that there is a Ton of Competition in the market, especially on sport-tour things need to change. I have to say I wouldn't get rid of my 04 FJR for nothing, love the bike, but have seen some other great deals out there. Friend of mine ride a Moto Guzzi Norgee and it's a sweet ride!

Does anyone know is Yamaha dropping all bike prices on every bike or just what was on that list? I would sure like to ad a new V-Max to my collection this year, but not paying $23 plus change for it.

Not exactly correct. There was a change in governance at the corporate level as Yamaha Canada still exists but no longer reports directly to the Yamaha home office as I understand it. All bikes and parts will still be shipped directly from Japan to Canada however. Here is the press release for the corporate lawyers in the group...

The Board of Directors of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (YMC) have voted to transfer all shares of Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. (YMCA), to its American subsidiary, Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (YMUS).

The transfer, to be completed by December 31, 2011, will see YMUS assume additional responsibilities for financial reporting and audit. The move will allow YMC to draw a centralized financial report from a single North American operation, similar to their Yamaha Europe, Yamaha South America and Yamaha Asia subsidiaries.

The investment arrangement will not impact YMCA's organizational structure. YMCA will maintain all of its current, independent responsibilities to serve the Canadian dealers and customers. The change is part of the on-going business reform process for YMC to simplify reporting for North American business.

YMCA joins nine other subsidiaries, including Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America, Skeeter Products Inc., and Tennessee Water Craft Inc., under the YMUS ownership portfolio.

Certainly the dealers around here are a little pissed. I was all prepared to head down to Montana to pick up an FZ6R to get the pillion off my back (pardon the pun

) but had to shake my head when I saw the 2012 pricing. Less than what one dealer I know is/was asking for an '09 he still has on the floor. There are a couple of dealers in town with 2011s in stock. One quoted me more than the '12 for it at the show but when challenged indicated that Yamaha hasn't increased the rebates on previous model years to compensate for the price drops. Sucks to sitting on old stock. Lucky for me, another dealer is willing to take a hit to get their 2011 off the floor and looks like they'll match the deal I've got pending in Montana.
