After much shopping, reading and such, I ended up buying an '07 FJR that was a trade-in at a dealership about 50 miles from here. I'm still smiling after the ride home (even though it's in the 90's here and I go ATGATT).

In my quest for a nice sport tourer to replace my '01 Tiger (which will become my son's ride once I'm confident he can handle it), I looked at and rode several bikes. First was a friend's '05 FJR (he's not selling it--just let me try it out), then a new C-14, an '04 R1150RT, two different K1200GTs (an '06 and an '03) and then finally an '07 FJR with almost 15K miles. It was a close call between the FJR and the '03 K1200GT, both of which I liked very much. What clinched it for me was the fact that the FJR (which was $1000 more) has a Y.E.S. warranty until 05/12, a factory top case, and I have a Yamaha dealer 2-3 mile from the house (compared to the nearest BMW dealer 90 miles away).

I'm sure I'll be around plenty asking stupid noobish questions and trying to gain as much knowledge as I can about this excellent cycle. I like to do a lot of my own wrenching (to a point), so it should be fun to learn about how to do the service and such on the FJ as well. Immediate mods I'm planning will be risers, a Cee Bailey touring screen (I'm 6'2") and some type of throttle device like a Tourmeister or something.

Welcome from Houston. Hope you got a great deal on it. First flame is this belongs in welcome forum

Did the PO add heated grips?? Those aren't allowed in Texas.

Check the group buys for the current run on Cee Bailey.

A nice first post, 'Judge, and a very clean example of an 07! Good find... you were selecting from a number of nice examples you got a chance to ride. I can honestly say you will enjoy every mile. It is an honest, nice performing bike that can be upgraded, Farkled and modified in so many ways to suit your tastes and needs.

Sounds like you may have been lurking on here for a bit, with your mention of having to do a lot of reading... this forum is a veritable treasure trove of good information, good folks and opportunities to learn about the new ride.

Yeah, minor infraction for not posting first in the appropriate New Member section, but you get an attaboy for including a picture with your first post, and you can probably wipe out the initial "Ah ****" by updating your member profile to show the correct motorcycle information!

As far as I'm concerned, just have fun, be an active participant and enjoy!

Welcome from your right...

yep, triple digit heat here

might consider attending my New Orleans Ride to Eat Gathering every March

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

Mike in Nawlins'

When I just tried to put up an intro post at the new members section, I get a message that says-

"Sorry, you do not have permission to start a topic in this forum"

Any suggestions?

Howdy from a fellow Texan. In case it hasn't been modded yet you might want to consider a G2 throttle tube to help tame off-idle jerkiness.

I just sold my son's KLR650 to a Plano guy yesterday. He's planning on doing an Alaska ride with.

I do need to add the G2 to my list. The throttle is a bit blippy at that point.

I guess I can do the G2 tube now and then wait until I go to change plugs or something to do the throttle spring mod.

Welcome! Nice look'n bike! Hey my 100th post! and now I'm a pilot! (that makes duke an official co-pilot!)

'07 here as well. Best color of 'em all. B)

Many farkles available. Just a suggestion for your first ones: add forward highway pegs, seat cushion/gel (temporary fix) or new seat (permanent fix), power commander, rewind throttle tensionor, grip puppies, cee bailey's headlight guards, and a Valentine 1 radar detector.

Why I didn't get the V1 first is a mystery to me. Why I didn't get a ticket from the time I bought the bike to the time I go the V1 is also a mystery to me.

On the seat issue, I'm thinking about sending the stock seat off to Spencer's https://greatdaytoride.com/Home_Page.php to get it modded. I can probably get it sent off, done and get it back to me all while I'm on vacation in early July.

I've read some positive reviews about his work and spoke with a guy who had Spencers re-do his C-14 seat (he was pleased). Anyone here had it done by him or talked to anyone who has?

Thanks to the folks here on the forum, I've already got coming my way soon frame sliders, risers and a CalSci screen. :santa:

Another welcome from Texas. Check with Kurt, I think he has a Spencer mod. Might run a search as I think there was so talk about it somewhere in here.

Holy farkle freak already. Welcome to the kommieklub. You'll learn to hate harleys and beemers here. You'll also notice that us fjr types rarely if ever crash our platforms. We're so much better then every one else here.
