Winger2b,

This is a FJR forum and of course I may be bucking the trend here but after reading this thread I think a better bike for your fit/height *may be* a Honda Interceptor/VFR. Has ABS as an option, slightly lower seat height, excellent fuel range, less weight (about 70 lbs less than the Feejer), 6speed transmission and bulletproof reliability. Ya, it has a few less ponies than the Feejer, but I think it may be a great fit for you (kind of a mini FJR). I think you will know what I mean by just simple taking a seat on the VFR. It will feel like an old buddy immediately. Check it out and compare it to the Feejer and see what feels more comfortable to you and go from there. :D

Winger2B, read the thread but missed it if anyone suggested a custom seat. Russell or Corbin can do a 'ride in' and get your tootsies closer to the ground. Even an inch can make a difference in stability when stopped. And like the man said, plastic is expensive...

FJRZON,

The Magna I ride currently has the interceptor motor... THe reason's I'm looking at the FJR is braking, power, lights, comfort (protection of the ferring) weight isn't so much an issue.. I can paddle hubby's wing around... the fuel range, shaft driv, and cargo space is also huge plusses...

Other sport only bikes have the pegs back too far for me... I have bad knees...

If I ride the FJR and manage not to scare my self too bad I'll prolly get it... then I'll prolly do the seat mods...

THanks for the idea though...

knees oh my you've opened up a whole nother topic there.

Since I was very young my left knee has always given me problems when it is left in one position for anytime at all. Once I feel asleep with my knee up and in the morning I couldn't move it at all it hurt so bad.

Anyway I have riden cruisers with floor boards and highway pegs and all out sport bikes . I can't even ride a bus for very long because the leg room isn't enough to be able to move my knees around.

I don't think knee problems only strike sport bikes because of the position of the pegs. If you have knee problems like me the biggest thing for me is to constantly move. Even small movement on the one peg helps. Sitting at my desk right now my knee starts to hurt. :)

Having my knees bent slightly is actually very comfy.... kinda the position if you were to sit on the edge of a chair and place you feet back so you are on the balls of them have them back a little farther than the knee but not far enough to be under you butt... That's the post. i sit in most times and the posistion I'm in on the FJR... one of the reasons I'm looking at it....

The Corbin Close seat is 1 inch lower than the stock seat.

I ride with a guy who is 5'4". He sure does get around without any problems.

Make sure you get some type of sliders...just in case.

Insurance: $320/year with State Farm (multi policy with 2 cars & house). That is in Omaha, Nebraska.

The type of riding you describe should get you at least 8000 miles if not better on your tire.

winger2b,

Sounds to me your knee problems are different than mine and at your height on the fjr your probably going to be very comfortable with the peg position.

Nice thing is there are even options for the fjr for different foot positions if you want to start adding things like that to your bike they are available.
