Another Dad and X mas bike story. Did I mention I got Sheets?

Had a buddy witha SV and he liked it. He traded for the Bergman. Looked Great on a Scooter I'll tell you.

What a great thing to do Bob, you're a swell dad, hope you & son get to take a ride together over the holidays.I've ridden one of those SV's and they are nimble & fun. Have a merry holiday.
Well, not all that great. He's having fun now and I'm happy about that. I'll be just as happy piloting the thing around the track. ;)

Shoulda asked for a bike... ;)

great story and very nice choice on the bike - I have an '04 SV-650S and it is great fun to ride with a totally different riding position (more aggressive) than the FJR. That little V-twin has just the right amount of power for me.

I ride the FJR when going long distances or with the S.O. but when along its the SV...

Yes a great story and what a suprise & priceless look on his face. i bet....

Now just post some photos when time permits.....Enjoy the visit...

My son is really racking up the miles, so I haven't had a chance to ride the thing except for a two-mile test ride. I will take your on the performance of the little V-twin. I'm sure it will be enough for me.

As above, the boy is out riding ALL THE TIME! He and the bike don't stay in one place long enough to take a picture!

seems like you came up with one of those "priceless monents" !!! You should'a had a camera when you handed him the helmet/jacket. I figure he'll remember that til he's in a rocking chair/old age

Way to go !!!

Nice story and great choice with the SV650S Bob. I have an 04 SV1000S and it's a fun bike in the twisties and at the track and the V-twin is a nice change from the I-4.

Still, I get a big grin on my face when I get back on the FJR after neglecting her for a while....the best all around bike I have ever owned.

Yeah, dammit. I never have the camera when I should.

Big difference between the two for sure. The SV's not broken in yet, so I haven't been able to nail it the way I want to yet, but I can tell already that it will leave me longing for the FJR's power. That said, the thing handles great and I love the sound of the V-twin. I'll love the sound even more next week when my Leo Vince High-Mount slip-on arrives. Call it Ducati lite. ;)

My introduction back into biking was an '03 SV650S. That is until a minivan thought I'd like to T-bone him. Totaled it off. I liked it so much that I replaced it with an '04 SV650 naked which I still have. I prefer the naked model (more comfortable ergos). I tried my best to make it tour friendly and I've taken it on several 7 to 10 day long trips with my riding buddies. I made my own luggage rack and can actually carry more gear on it than I can on my FJR with a Givi E52 top case! It's great fun in the twisties. I put a full Yoshumira stainless steel racing exhaust on it plus a power commander. That sweet little V-twin sounds amazing. You'll love it I'm sure. Check out SVRider.com for all the tips and tricks. I thought it was the best bike site ever till I joined this one :)

Already joined up. Same screen name over there. And you're right, it's a great resource, but second to this one, for sure.

Finally took some pics.

First mod was sliders. Have a Leo Vince high-mount carbon exhaust on the way as well as a fender eliminator and rear hugger.

Well Bob, you move up a notch in my opinion. That was a great thing to do for yourself and your son. I know you'll get great service out of the bike and long lasting memories of riding with your son. You are the MAN!

Nice bike. My '04 is the same blue (good choice). I took the passenger grab rail off of my wrecked silver '03 and mounted it on the blue '04. I've got the silver frame on mine so it sets the rear of the bike off nicely, plus it's a momento of my first SV. I would have to say that there are more farkles available for these bikes than the FJR believe it or not. The aftermarket loves these things. When you get into changing everything you can on the bike (which you will at some point  ), I would recommend cartridge fork emulators. SVRider gets into their importance and installation in great detail. I upgraded mine, put Continental Road Attacks on it when the OEM rubber wore out and it transformed the bike! If you would like to increase the air intake, a snorkel from an SV1000 fits perfectly and allows 2.5 times the air flow. I got one for ten bucks at the local bike graveyard. If I knew how to post a photo on this site I'd put a couple up. When I've got it fully loaded for an extended trip it looks like a pack mule heading into the Alps.

Wow! Lots of SV owners on the forum - that's awesome! My first bike was an '02 which I still have/love. It's my daily commuter and is probably more farkle than bike now. I'd use the FJR for commuting, but it's just a bit too wide/heavy to comfortably lane split with in heavy traffic.

In addition to svrider, there's a very friendly SV/DL Google group: https://groups.google.com/group/sv-dl-riders?lnk=sg

My last bike was an SV1000S. When I rode with my buddies from Camp pendleton to Palm Springs or Palomar, I could outride their liter bikes because of the SV's low end torque. On the straights it was a different story though. I miss my SV and have been thinking about getting another one or perhaps an RC-51.

I agree. After spending a few days on the SV, the FJR seems, well, BIG! I'll never give it up though. Nothing beats the FJR for the long haul.

I seriously considered the SV1000. Also a host of liter bikes. I could have handled them. But when it came down to the final decision, it was about what I would feel comfortable with my son riding. Made the right decision.

That said, love that SV1000!

BTW, thank you for your service! Ex Navy here. Don't hold that against me! ;)

Here's a couple of shots of my '04 with the home made luggage rack, rear fender, rad and oil cooler guards.
