Nissan has announced the unveiling of its 2009 GT-R sports coupe:

Engine - 3.8L V-6 twin turbo, twin intercooler

480 hp at the rear wheels (dyno runs)

Trans - 6-speed manual with dual clutches

Performance - 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds

Standing qtr-mile in 11.5 sec, @ 124 mph

Skidpad @ 0.99g

70-0 braking in 145 feet

The article (MSN homepage) stated that this $70,000 vehicle will blow the doors off a 911 turbo ($125,000), and a Lamborghini LP640 ($124,000). The clutch system allows drag-strip launches that leave about one inch of rubber on the track! I wonder if a set of Leo Vances or Two Brothers would improve the numbers a little bit. If just 8 of us sell our FJRs and pool the money, we can own one. If 2 more members chip in, we can affort the premium fuel for some fun weekends! Phil

Is this going to the states? they are pretty sweet. I need to get one. haha. bit pricey tho....we'll see....

I saw 6 of these on the road next to my house about a month ago. They were testing them in the mountains I think, showing them off to reporters probably cause each car had 2 people in it. At first I didn't know what they were, but as they went past I realized they were the new car. They must have been trying to keep it on the down low cause all the cars were dirty. Odd. Great looking car.

Be prepared to pay well OVER list for the Skyline. With all the hype, I doubt any dealer won't make extra $ on this very scarce rocket.

Thanks for the linky, Groo. I had not seen it, and it tells a more complete story.

What an impressive vehicle (numbers and performance-wise) but with that being my very first look I have to say it was a bit disappointing, visually. Very dated from the first look. Like it is designed to look like it was festooned with aftermarket parts, and not well thought out. Sorry, I want to like it, but it immediately turned me off. In a year or two, if it stays in the lineup, will need a facelift.

Where the hell you guys been on this? This has been 'in the news' for the past 4 years. And, IMO, this GT-R is not in the spirit of the original Skyline GT-R.

A V6 Skyline? PAH! Sacrilege!

How can anyone take that glorious I6 (S20 through R34 motors and all of the various iterations), combined with RWD and convert it to a V6 with AWD and slap the same moniker on it is beyond me.

That said, I would kill to have the GT-R in my garage. :)

Nothing wrong with the V6 although I understand what you are saying as they had an inline all the time when they were in Japan. Seems to be a proven platform and things change though.

Wish I made enough to be able to get one but it's not to be. I hear that they are going to sticker around 70K but good luck finding one for 100K. It would be worth every penny to whip the *** out of the 911's and the Vetts though.
