I just ordered a new penske 8983 from Traxxion Dynamics, and I put money down for them to upgrade my forks if I can ship 'em to them.

I was searching for write-up on installing the shock, and I see FJRocket did a very nice photo journal on his 06AE. Thanks Rocket. I also found an article on Warchild's site, Good! 2 articles on what to do... I should be well off with the aft end suspension.

However, I can't seem to find anything on fork removal. I know it's probably pretty easy, but I'd like to see if there are any tools I need to locate. (I think I need at least one special wrench for the front wheel, and a chain hoist)

Thanks

Remove the front calipers & suspend (I hung them from the mirrors with tie-wraps).

Loosen the front axle pinch bolt, then the axle itself(don't know the allen wrench size - I used a bolt that fit with 2 nuts jammed together on the bolt's threads), jacked up the bike, loosened the 2 pinch bolts on the lower clamp, remove the front fender, axle & wheel, loosen the upper fork clamp pinch bolt (hold on to the fork in case it slides out of the clamp). Remove the fork tube. Hang the brake calipers from the lower fork clamp if leaving them on the mirrors makes you nervous. I think that's all there is.

Sheesh TOM!!!

You spend more time Farkling your bike than riding it!!!!!

When I get my wilburs rear (with traxxion spring) and traxxion front springs installed we'll have to go test em out on the ohio scenic river byway!

Keith,

I have 10,000 miles on my '07, but since I the wife and I carpool now, (and she doesn't want to suit-up to ride and mess her hair) my riding mileage has been falling behind. The perfect time to farkel up! (and 100 degrees 80% humidity isn't comfortable at any legal speed)

Paisano, Thanks for the hints on the removal, and you're welcome to join us!

What was the turnaround time they told you for your forks? I would truly HATE to have my forks in GA when EOM is going on.... I'd feel like an enormous dork if I was there with the cage. Kinda like the guy in the pickup truck that follows the string of leaking Harley's that are so skillfully going straight down the freeway.

I'm nervous about sending it off, but I'd like them installed for the EOM suspension festival. Decisions.....

re: Turnaround time - Forks: They told me no more than 2-3 days in the shop, they're slow right now. Shock: 2-4 weeks. They're hoping for 2 but it could be longer.

re: Nervous - I'm right there with you but could find NO negatives involving Traxxion. Gonna be on the cornbread & beans diet until I get them paid for though..........

I've got a penske on order, GP suspension said it would be about 3 weeks (wtf) to put together.

What is all going on for the forks, is it a total rebuild or just springs?

About taking the front wheel off, my mechanic at the dealer said that you don't really need a 19mm hex to take it apart if you have an impact wrench for tires. It just spins right out. However, to put it back together, I found a 19mm Allen wrench at the hardware store for !$27.00!!. So I went to eBay, and found THIS dandy for lots less, with shipping. And it's big enough that you can make several out of it if you had to. Sweet!

And, Powell, yea, the works! look HERE.

That sounds good ITom, you have to let us know after how it is and a ride report!

Do they take vitals like weight and riding style to set up the springs and damping?
