I Got me about 1000 miles on my new Roady's and Im happy to report, they are a great handling tire, in all conditions... Bike came with Battleaxe's and they were OK, but the scalaping really drove me knuts...

I wore them down to the end, but would never buy another pair of that CR@P....

Just thought Id throw out my thoughts, for anyone thinkin about or on the fence...

These baby's are awesome. !!!!

Warp :yahoo:

Yeah my Avon rear (12k+) is about outa tread and I'm trying to decide if I should do another set of Avons or try the Pilot Roads... I've loved the Avons, much better in all aspects that the Z4's that came with the bike. Well, I guess I'll check SW moto & see what's in stock.

I just ordered up a set of Pilot Roads a couple of days ago. Then i get an e-mail today telling me there back ordered and won't come in until the 10 th :angry2: . My front Metzler is worn slap out at 8500 miles. Good thing i've got my old KZ 1300 to rip around on for a couple of weeks.

Pilot Roads are my next set. I have been trying to burn out my present set for months just to have 'em, but I'm failing at every step.

Maybe Brundog can help me out. Ha Ha.

Next year.

PR's have become my tire of choice. Better mileage than the Avons and no Howie Wobble. I will say that you have to keep after the air pressure - a half pound off is highly noticeable with these hoops, IMO.

I'm having a set of the Diablo Stradas put on as we speak. While talking w/ Larry at 29 Dreams, he mentioned the Pilot Roads 2TC (?). He said they were a dual compound tire; harder in the center and softer at the edges. Are these the PR's that you guys are so high on? I've got 2500 on my OEM Z-6's and they are at about 40% left. I'm keeping them as flat chang-overs since i have to have new shoes for a school. Any info appreciated.

I got my set of PRs on last Friday. I still had the original Metzler's on till then and really didn't like them. I just now got back from a 250 mile ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and wow! "Like a new bike" as they say. I know it was only one tank of gas on this ride, but my mileage went up a bit over 10%. The handling is far better on all roads IMHO. It will be interesting to see if the mileage increase is reall or just an aberation. I hope it's real!

The Stealer talked me into pilot powers for my summer tyres because the pilot roads were backordered. I wore out the rear in 3K and now have the perfect combination...A pilot power on the front and a pilot road on the rear. I expect the front to last about 8K which is perfect because I always need a new rear after 4K.

The '05 came with the WC death metzlers & they were OK, but wore out @ 4K.

Then I tried Pireli Diablo Strada EMS which lasted 4K - great winter tyres.

Then I tried Avons which lasted 4K - they were OK

Then I got the summer tyres above - sport bike tyres on an FJR - and got 2 performance awards in 90 days.

I have had 2 sets of Bridgestones and 2 sets of Avons and now have had the Michellin Pilot Roads for 3500 miles. I like the PR's in that they balance w/o ten pounds of weight. However, they are not as sticky as the avons and so far that has only been noticeable over tar snakes. They also seem to be close to their end of life. I figure i have about 2 more k out of them and although I hate the weird turn entry wobble, I will have to say that I am a Avon dude after this set.

Oh, I see.....it's the fault of the tires . What a great excuse..... :lol2:
Actually, now that I think about it, I didn't get noticed by the LEO's until I put the "I support Law Enforcment" joke sticker under my plate. I'm gonna go tear that stupid sticker off my bike right now.

They might have seen the sticker and thought:

I was happy to get the roadside donation slip.

Concur.... I just spooned on some new PRs for a recent trip and these new ones are different: different labels, different looking construction (diff. seams on the tread face), and deeper looking tread depth -- I know, nothing official or quantataive -- just observations. But, the proof was in the riding -- these babies are way more "lively". Faster transitions and better all around cornering feel and assist (if that makes any sense?). History: my '03 came with Metzs (didn't like); changed to Stones BT-020 (liked); and Mich PRs (thought were OK) -- but, these "new" PRs are the best of the bunch, imo.RE: Smitty's Conti RA report (elsewhere) -- I gave-up on Contis ages ago (may consider them for protection around the boat dock.....) <_<

so...., a call or e.mail to a Mich rep. could confirm this...... I ran the Pilot Roads (2 yrs. ago) to 9,500 miles and liked them but they were slow to turn in, in the tight stuff. Excellent in pouring rain and tracked well over anything..., a little weird in strong, side gusts though.

I talked with Gary Eagan (LD Guru) Sunday & He swears by Avon 45/46. I've heard about the low, low speed problem but heard Avon is addresing the issue with the front tire. I like twisties and am looking for better handling tire with some mileage. Currently have the Metz Z6 and don't care for them much...

I had these tires since new

Bridgestone BT-020... OK, But the front cupped really bad at 5k.

Avons AV 45/46... 1st set was the "B" spec and handling was great, Low speed wobble only when the trunk was installed.... 2nd set regular "Non B spec" was changed early due to severe flat spot in the center from the trip to WFO at 5k. Still had about 1k left in it, But needed fresh rubber for the Arkansas trip. Same wobble at low speeds

Michelin Pilot Roads... The best performer so far! I ride aggressive in the corners and these are rock steady in the corners with no slip. I have 1200 miles so far on these and they are showing minimal wear as the Avons were egg shaped by this time. Time will tell how they last, But a 2nd set of PR's will be bought. They also take almost ZERO weights to balance! Less than an ounce on each wheel.

Hope this helps,

Adam

when'd gary start riding an fjr? i thought he only road bikes with breasts.

He doesn't, at least that I have heard. I am sure he uses them on his Duc.

I balanced my Avons with 0 g on the back and 30g on the front. Seems well under common reports of others.
