New Tom-Tom Rider GPS for Motorcycles

Interesting new GPS product made specifically for motorcycles, bicycles, etc. Waterproof, flash memory-no HDD, lithium-ion battery, large display, bluetooth. Something to consider, altho the 5 hour battery time is a turnoff for me personally. I'm not sure the mc connection adapter would work on the FJR. I've been wavering between the 276C and Quest II, but will have to give some thought to the new Tom-Tom also.

Yea, the Tom-Tom Rider also caught my attention some month's back. It was sleighted to be out this past summer, but seems to have slipped a number of months.

Thanks for mentioning it again. There appears to be more detailed information now on their website. As far as connecting it to the FJR, the 12-volt cabling seems simple, but, as you point out, the mechanical handle bar clamp would likely need to be replaced by a stem fitting.

I don't see any information that described the battery life of their bluetooth headset, though. Wonder how long one could go before that was exhaused?

Interestingly, I see that they list it on their site at both $999 and $1,199! Go figure...

Now. If only a second, spare bluetooth headset would get you intercom capability with your pillon...

Then there's all the BlueTooth units that work with B/T PDA. I just got the Garmin and I AM impressed with it! Water resistant, magnetic, small, and pretty good S/W. You can use on the bike or in the car. The PDA can do a host of other PDA stuff at the same time.

Somewhere on-line, probably one of the big GPS-only review sites, I saw a photo-comparison of screen quality between the major current suppliers and the Tom-Tom was very disappointing by comparison (contrast & brightness). It was not the "Rider" unit so maybe we can hope.

Give up hope.

The screen on the Rider is the same as their "GO" model.

If they ever show up, I'll be able to get them from my distributor for around $780.

Gave it a thought, but I'm going with the Quest II instead.

I just bought the Garmin Quest for use in my car and on the FJR. I like the large internal memory, water resistant and the battery that is rated at 20 hours of use (6 when the back light is used). They also have a motorcycle mount kit but I didn't buy it as I found the standard included mount cheap plastic. I will be adding a Ram mount for the bike.

I have the TomTom 700 at my store with the bluetooth phone enable to receive traffic, weather and make calls from it.
