New York State Park Fees Increased

Just a heads up to those of you looking to use any of the NYS parks this summer. Beginning last Saturday they increased fees by about 33% to try and make up a 4 million dollar deficit that they have. Many access fees just to get into a parking lot have risen $3.00. For you golfers, fees at Bethpage Black on Long Island have risen $15.00 so it is now $75.00 per round. Pretty soon we will all have to get a second job just to enjoy a little nature.

This is from their press release:

"Out-Of-State Camping Surcharge. A surcharge of $5 per night on campsites and $25 per week on cottage and cabin rentals will be added for out-of-state visitors, bringing New York in line with many states in the Northeast that charge an out-of-state differential.

In addition, a mandatory vehicle entrance fee for the Walkway Over the Hudson parking lot in Poughkeepsie will be established at a later date. Voluntary donation boxes, prominently placed with "suggested donation" signage, will also be erected at the Walkway.

These fee increases are helping to offset additional park service reductions for the upcoming season. The new fees will be in place for the 2010-11 operating season. Last year, fees were increased on campsites and cabins, the Empire Passport season pass, marina rentals, and golf courses, while vehicle use fees were unchanged. Fees collected by State Parks are dedicated by law to the operations, maintenance and capital improvement of New York's state parks and historic sites.

Raising fees is one thing, but take a look at the number of park closures and cut back services throughout the state! Nothing like getting a whole lot less for a whole lot more....Must be the way BMW owners feel. :lol:

That's freaking horrible. I grew up in CNY (Syracuse) and I can't believe all the closures listed in that area alone. Nice governor you have. Won't even mention all the scandals around him. He can't even talk properly:

I've got to say, when the "government" closes a beach or a historic site (see? It's "a" historic site), what are they really closing? The lake is still there. Or the waterfall. Or the Revolutionary War fort. They're closing the booth where the state stooge takes your money to park or to walk in and look at the thing or to jump in the water. I wonder how the hell the pioneers ever got to go swimming at ALL without someone to take their money at the little booth?
