an 09 with 2600 miles, got 48 to 51 mpg, until dealer synced throttle bodys and set throttle positioning sensor, this was done to stop engine from stalling at startup after a stop for gas or brake, now has more power and better response, but way worse mpg

I ride on the freeway mostly and I ride fast (80-95) most of the time. My Average MPG according to my bike to 36.something mpg. It has been long time since I have reset it. Normally I get about 38 mpg. If I ride with the Goldwing and UltraGlide guys I get about 42.

6.6 gallon tank! Mileage? Don't care. If I was good enough to get it down to 33mpg (I'm not) it would still be longer than what I care to ride without a rest. <g>

You can see my actual MPG right from the records at MileageTracker.org by clicking here.
Ouch, $3.86/gal on 6/11/09! Where was that??
I'm trying to make a habit of including the city where gas was purchased. Take a look again at that one and it will show The Dalles, Oregon. Right off the interstate and next to where I ate dinner that night. Gas around here seems to be all over the place. Cost me 2.91 a gallon to fill up the cage today.

I have a gen1, does anyone care?I get about 40mpg freeway, on more cruising rides it does get into the low 50's, mostly mid to high 40's in cruiser mode.
How the heck do you and Mike get into the low 50s for mpg? I am assuming this is freeway mileage. What speed do you ride on the freeway?
No way Freeway miles! Back country roads, no traffic, no stops, where you can't get over 50MPH too often. Frwy is pretty consistant at 40mpg. The last ride on Hwy 2, I got about mid 40's going thru the mountains. Filled up from, 138 and the 15, across the mountain tops, and down to home. Traffic going home on the frwy also kept me well under 35 most of the time.

I will have to reset my mpg gauge more often and watch it more carefully.

Second that! Best mileage on my Gen 1 is low RPM cruising, like back roads and slower twisties, where I can get up to 46mpg. But with freeway and/or city riding I get 42mpg.

06 stock+PC3, I get 48mpg on backroads, mostly 3rd gear, 5-7k rpm.

But 90mph on the interstate in 5th, 38 mpg.

So it appears wind resistance is really the culprit, not the engine, rpm, or load.

Are you checking your mileage using the bike computer? I'm asking because when I installed my PC3 the computer started reading wildly optimistic. In other words, I check my mileage manually and I average 37mpg yet the computer tells me I'm getting 48mpg. The problem is that the bike computer only knows how much fuel it's computer is calling for, yet the PC3 is adding extra fuel that the bike computer doesn't know about.

See Fuelly banner below. This is all mixed riding. If I included my attempt at CFR this would be about 5mpg higher.

Speaking of which, my 04 got noticably better mileage that Moosehead's 06 who rode behind me entire way from Sudbury to Central Wisconsin. He'd be into reserve and I still had 2 bars left.

scenic ride with buddies...CMA or PGR escort..."little roads" doing the speed limit or below like 45mph

puttering around for the day

cool temps with high dense air, but windshield down

before meals so rider has less expansion or mass

tired, so laying down on the seat whole way

ride naked covered in oil so...

Fallbrook to Las Vegas this morning I averaged 36.8 mpg. It is all freeway up the 15. I had my v-stream on and down almost all the way. I kept the cruise on 85 almost the entire way. Got up to 95 for a few minutes then slowed back down to 85.
