Hey Guys,

My '06 Sierra 1/2 ton has begun fogging the windows and has a smell of antifreeze. And this is with the windows about two inches down, 55 degrees

and takes forever to defrost.

Also when driving around the off/on ramps, I get a clicking feeling through the steering wheel. Been getting worse for the past couple of weeks.

Any educated guesses?

Covered under warranty, but would rather spend a couple hours myself fixing it, rather than letting it sit for a couple of days at the dealership.

Bryce

I would start HERE for that question as there are thousands of people with your same truck.

Good luck with the problem.

Your not going to easily fix the anti freeze / fogging problem. That sounds like your heater core is leaking.

Since it's in for that may as well have them look at the clicking problem.

Yep! With a little bit of luck it may be a loose hose clamp. Get it fixed, rapido...it'll do terrible things to the carpet and padding.

Thanks guys,

kinda what I figured, but on a 1 year old truck? Needless to say that i won't be driving this one much longer....must'v been put together on a friday afternoon when they announced layoffs. Lots of interior rattles and squeeks, groans, moans, etc. Not to mention a bad case of piston slap on startup.

Maybe I got the unbadged Harley-Davidson edition

Thanks again for the input!

Bryce

New heater core on the way!

Hopefully they'll fix my laundry list of other annoyances :glare:

Took it to a different dealer and they seem to be more willing to solve these other small problems.

Bryce

I'd be interested to hear any comments your dealer makes about the piston slap. My 01 (5.3L) Chevy clatters like a Ford Diesel at startup for several seconds. A buddy told me about piston slap. Truck has 80K or so on it- doesn't get any worse but wonder if I should worry about it.

Some info here I found. https://www.pistonslap.com/index.html

Good luck

And the Big Three Wonder why the imports are kicking their A$$?

I have a ten year old Nissan Maxima with 120K and never fixed one single thing except tires and brakes. Not even an exhaust.

All the dealers I've talked to say "it's normal". I asked him if my coworkers truck wasn't running right, since it didn't knock on startup? No reply!

Jestal, a member of this forum, who works for GM, says it's normal but annoying for owners. Some owners have complained to GM and received a 100K/6yr warranty extension on the motor only.

After getting my truck back this evening, I realized I have to take it back as they didn't install the heater core correctly or left something unhooked as I can hear the whoosh from the motor as the the rpm's go up and down. Sounds like the cooling/heating fan is on when it's not. :angry2:

They did fix the headliner, oil-life monitor and steering problem though.

Will see if they can fix the creaking from all the door seals too.

While I have had mainly Fords before this GMC, I will probably trade in this fine example of American engineering  and buy a Japanese car, and then find a old truck for hauling the dirtbike or making garbage/home depot runs. <_<

Unfortunately, the japanese manufacturers are now having their fair share of problems too. Considering Toyota builds a lot of their vehicles in the states, I can see why. While I have been driving trucks for the past twenty years, I was going to switch to a car and buy a Camry, but learned they have been having problems with their new 6-speed auto transmission. Since I work in a grocery store and when I get the chance, I always ask customers how they like their vehicles?......at least the ones I'm interested in.

Honda, Subaru and Toyota owners seem the most pleased, while Volkswagon owners seem the most displeased.(especially Passat owners).

Cars I'm considering:

Subaru Forrester or Outback-nonturbo

Toyota Camry or Matrix

Honda Civic or Accord.

And since I miss my old F250 PSD. I'd like to find a '03 7.3 PSD with the Torque-shift tranny. :yahoo:

Let me take out a line of credit to pay for gas back to Seattle............Ooops, have to reconsider! :glare: I would think the CC Co. would cancel my line of credit if they found out I bought your truck! Make for a good driveway ornament

PS I'll work on the double post replies, probably why I work in a grocery store!

Unfortunately, that is why the old girl is now a 'ranch truck' and 'go to the mailbox' or 'go to the dump' truck. I simply can't afford fuel at 8mpg. Incredible isn't it? 8 mpg at our current rate of $3.17 gallon means it would cost me over 30 freakin' dollars simply to drive to town to buy groceries! 'I simply think we, as consumers, are being gouged to death by overcharging. I'll stop now before I get worked up and/or warned..

I bought a 96 Maxima with 39 K miles on it in 1999, sold it with 290,000 miles for $1000. It had only routine maintenance, original exhaust, struts, rotors. Only problem was bad frt wheel bearing @ 289,000 and check engine light was on for last 50K, needed O2 sensors. Everything else worked normally.

Bryce, the new April car edition of Consumer Reports is out. Pick one up for reliability reports. IMHO, buy a low mileage USED car or truck and save a ton of money (for FJR farkles, of course). Let someone else take the big hit on the new car. New cars on avg lose 60% of their value in the 1st 4 years.

Don't stop now....check out the Toyota, Honda, BMW, etc. forums before you make your final decision. Toyotas are getting to be the most recalled vehicles out there and have tremendous problems with engine failures due to sludge formation from an inadequate PCV system and front suspensions on Tundras collapsing and freezing up from ball joints failing (see huge recall on Tundra's for this.) And before you buy a new Tundra keep in mind that it has an elastomeric timing belt driving those four overhead cams. Nice and quiet and reliable until it snaps (or needs replacement) at 100K. Somehow a pickup truck with a timing belt just does not fit my preconcieved notions of bulletproof.

Granted the problems you had are not really defensable but they are pretty minor compared to the suspension failing or the motor failing.

Don't just assume the domestic manufacturers are the only ones with problems in the field.

There are internet forums that would have you believe each and every product on earth is the biggest piece of crap around. Similarily, there are forums on the exact same products that the owners love them. Much like the FJRforum posters tend to "forgive" the tickers and other problems with the FJR when it could be made to look like junk with the failures reported.
