Chicks dig scars, man.

You shoulda seen the look on the face of the gal who was directing cars in the parking lot at Ben & Jerry's at NERDS last year. She told us to park in another area and while attempting a slow-speed U-turn in a weirdly-sloped gravel parking lot I promptly dropped the FJR in front of God and a lot of witnesses. I just hit the kill switch, popped the bike back up, Sooze and I hopped back on, and away we went.

But the looks on their faces was pretty funny.

... and try the same with my FJR. Would be quite a confidence builder to know I could get it upright again if I ever dropped it....
You must know the correct technique. It's different for the girls. Take your helmet off, shake your hair out. Then stand there looking helpless.

Some stupid bloke will come along to prove how strong he is. Let him put his back out.

Anyway, some of us do it in multiples.

(Story here)

Not to feel bad. My first drop was April 24 this year. I was fully packed to leave CA and ride to PA and was with a group of friends who rode along part of the way. We stopped in Markleeville for coffee and to say goodbye. Upon leaving I was distracted by my radio not transmitting, and thought I had the kickstand down, and just went to get off the bike. Well of course the bike just kept going over. My attempt to stop it resulted in a pulled hamstring that kept me gimping for 3-days and a few thousand miles.

Fortunately, there were no pictures, so it never happened.

Thanks, Mcatrophy .... I use that technique quite often, usually when there is some wiring work required on my bike. It works to good effect, I must say. Particularly when combined with the offer of food.

I've also used it for a dropped bike - when I laid my Ducati down in the driveway, my neighbor was quick to lend his back ...

I do like to have at least the veneer of self reliance, though. Just in case there isn't a guy around when I need one.

:)

Sorry to hear about the drop.
If anyone can confirm that the mirrors for the 2003 and the 2006's are the same I have a brand new set that the previous owner of my (now ex) FJR included with the sale that I would be willing to send you. I just traded in the 2003 FJR and my 2003 FZ1 for a 2013 Super Tenere, so I have no need for the mirrors. I also have a barn door Yamaha Touring screen that appears to have never been mounted if you are interested.
Hey Nick, thanks for the offer. I looked at it today, you can hardly see the scratches for the bugs!

I should clean it but right now I'm trying the Patriot cleaning method on my bike.

As for the barn door, I'm actually quite good with the stock shield. I have a cut down summer shield I need to finish polishing up and mount though, as it is summer in Texas. I should think the barn door would come in handy for all but the month of July in Alaska.

McAtrophy, that would have made me mad, but at least you didn't do the dropping. Now THAT will make you mad.

Tom, I am one of those with short legs so I have some experience putting motorcycles on their sides from my time riding high seated sport bikes. I have learned when you are beyond that point of no return and it's better to set it down gently than to injure yourself trying to keep it upright.

BikerGeek99, that sounds terribly embarrassing. I'd have wanted to curl up in a dark place and die of embarrassment if I did that in front of those folks. On the other hand...Ben & Jerry's...mmmmmmm.
