It sure would SMART if ya ever got in an accident with a normal size vehicle! Might as well be a motorcycle.

Every time I see one of those, I can't help but look for the golf clubs on the back. I'd like to see one up close and even take one for a spin.

Check out the crash ratings for that thing-better than your suv! Entire unit is a cell that surrounds the occupant. Cruises down the highway at 70 with no issues. 1000cc three banger located in the rear. Seats are 6" higher than the engine so that the engine will not enter the passenger compartment in the event of a rear collision. Side collision hits wheels. You-tube has a 70 mile per hour hit on a conrete barrier where you can still open/close the passenger door. I'm taking it to the mountains of NH this weekend so I'll see if I have to install a sail.

So what's the point of a car so small you can't carry anything? Looks like I have more luggage room in my saddlebags. Granted, I can probably drive it home drunk without falling over, but that looks like the only advantage.

You just need to practice more, crash. Riding a motorcycle impaired isn't as hard as it looks.

That's not exactly true. It is as good as your SUV if you drive it into a wall, that's what the famous crash test showed. But if you play chicken with your SUV, your SUV wins every time.

Smart cars are good cars, but even they must obey Newton's second law of motion.

I bought it as a moving billboard for my business. It gets noticed everywhere you go. It also has more storage space than my wife's convertible. Not a family wagon by any anybodys standards but for advertising it doesn't get much better.

Whats the gas mileage supposed to be? Does it have A/C? Standard shift?

I like it!

If it gets a flat can you use the tire off your lawn mower/wheel barrow? :D

They've been available to us frostbacks for a couple of years now. Slow to catch on but word has got out. These thing just rock. Great in the snow etc. Be prepared to answer a barrage of questions everytime you stop.

Funny story, my ex and I were looking at one at a car show, their were these two guys trying to get a look in the back trying to figure out how much storage space was back there. My gf was sitting in the drivers seat when one of them asks her see if she can open the hatchback. She finds the button and pops it.

One guys says, "Hey there's room back here for a 2-4!"

The other guys says ".... or a dead midget"

I'm damn near wet my pants I was laughing so hard.

Some people won't ever accept bikes or SmartCars, but for a while, we were chuckling as we pointed to every one of these that we saw. Suddenly, they are making more sense financially and there are enough of them around that they are seriously being accepted. They do still get looks though, so good luck with yours.

I've seen a couple of these navigating I-10 out west of Houston and holding their own in the fracas.

Mileage is listed as 33/41. I'll find out moe this weekend when I drive 400 miles.

A/C is standard (I think)

Transmission is unusual-it has what they call semi-automatic.

a) You can put it in manual mode and shift with paddle shifters on steering wheel (AE)

B) Leave it in auto mode and it shifts for you. You feel the throttle let up and the car shift.

There is NO spare tire. It comes with a tire repair kit. The front and rear tires are different sizes.

Another funny thing about these is the body panels can be changed. If you look at the pics my car will be registered as a SILVER car because that is the only color that is fixed on the car
