What about the Smart-A. That would suit me just about right.

I have seen a few of these, and they look like they can carry more than I thought. From what I have heard from owners when I had the chance to talk to them, these things are the cats ass for getting around downtown Chicago. You can park them almost as easily as the FJR.

 
Suddenly, they are making more sense financially and there are enough of them around that they are seriously being accepted.
True. Driving big, swaggering trucks simply makes no sense for the bulk of the population. None. Oh sure, you need to haul your boat (get a slip) or haul your latest home remodeling project materials from Home Despot (have them deliver it or rent their truck) or haul your snowmobiles to the woods (any car can pull these) or haul your house to the campgrounds (buy a tent) or have to haul around 8 people (yeah, right, once a year - maybe) - sure, yeah, righteo.

Small cars rock! Nice ride, cota! :good:

 
Hey TWN can you use your bike to tow my wife's horses and the Hay for them, oh yeah, and the 20 face cords of firewood I use per year?

But the truck is parked whenever I am riding the FJR, so it kind of evens out. No, 99% of people don't need at ruck or SUV even.

Tow your horses? Why not just ride the damn things - ain't that what they are for? As for the hay and firewood, those can be delivered or you can rent a truck. Or, you can kill three birds with one stone: Shoot the horses and enjoy the barbecue. ;)

 
Well, if I shot the horses, the wife would wait for me to go to sleep, and then.......

Can't ride then down the highway, they don't have enought top end speed.

 
Very SMART purchase, cota.

A guy in my office building has had one (neon yellow) for about a month now. I too was a little skeptical until I read the very respectable crash test information, published this week in the Chicago Sun Times. I suspect we're going to see a WHOLE lot more of them on the road in the near future.

Looking forward to more reviews from you.

 
Looks like Sky Way may have to mke some tip over guards for the s car...

Reminds me of the one the French made in the 60's

should be safe seen the crash test that was done

That would be the Citroën 2CV (deux-chevaux) = two horses

No kitsch with the Smart Car, it is light years beyond the 2CV.

Great safety if you like living in a wheel chair for the rest of your life.Or on a 4 wheel roller board.

The real problem with this car is it has no real histroy.

It is NOT the European car. It is a special Smart Car (Bigger) for america. The engine has no real history. The fuel milage is not what it is rated for.

People are getting 35 to 38 best average.

The Honda Civic is 100 time better. It's much bigger and gets much better MPG. + it's a real car.

The Smart Car is a nich car. People will buy it. But as a realistic, usable car. I don't think so.

I don't think it would handle over 4 inches of snow if that much.

But those who buy it should have a lot of fun with it.

For myself I couldn't care a rats ass about any of it. I bought it a rolling billboard for my business. Everywhere I go it draws a crowd. I'll post up some pictures next week when the graphics are on.

If safety is such an issue with you buy a huge truck and stop riding your bike. Let the guy have some fun.

Power came from a 236 cc (14.4 in³) 9.5 hp (7.1 kW) two cylinder two-stroke motorcycle engine. The engine was started by a combination generator-starter known as Dynastart. A manual gearbox provided four forward speeds and reverse. A chain drive connected the gearbox to a solid rear axle with a pair of closely-spaced 10-inch rear wheels.
I've seen a few SMART cars on the road. They may not do the job for many but with the amount of oversized single-passenger vehicles crowding our roadways...????

OK. SO it showed the car did fairly well, how would a person hold up in that type of impact? No crash dummy outfitted with sensors to see what types of forces they would encounter. Would their feet be pinned in, etc? Not bad looking results from the unscientific eye.... :huh:

I'll wait for the pickup version like TWN mentions, I need to haul crap around. :blink:

Son, A real car is any car the owner likes. For Cota95 it is the "Smart Car" For me it is another make. You see, son, it's just a matter of "Personal Preference". Your's may or may not be a Smart Car, but that is up to you. That, is what Personal Preference is all about.

For all I know you don't own a car. Your personal preference may be motorcycles only.

If you need to know anything else about real cars, real motorcycles, real life, etc. just let the "Car Police" Know.

I did some research back in the day when these first came out in Oz. I was worried about a friend who was driving it around as I thought it would have budget safety.

FJRBluesman is right, the Smart car has a brilliant crash rating but it has next to no energy absorption areas in the models that I was looking at (Smart ForTwo and Smart ForFour). They basically took a roll cage, strapped panels to it, and called it a car. They even moved it to a RR engine-drive wheel layout because this would reduce the weight AND increase the front crumple zone. The saving grace is the side and front airbags.

Cota95, I think you made a brilliant business decision - when Smart cars first came out here EVERYONE looked at them.
