T - I've already pitched the heated liner with these guys, but I suppose Redfish are cold blooded....

It's one of those things that you seem to drag people into adding to their arsenal of gear... they hem and haw and drag their feet... and when they FINALLY get the stuff and use it, they're like, "Why the hell didn't I do this sooner?!?"

We didn't wear any heated gear in Arkansas,........but it sure would have been nice to have. Especially on the way down there in the below 40 temps.

^^^^^^^ this - PRECISELY.
Uhhh, 'Pants? Really?

This is a classic case of The Pot Calling the Kettle Black.

I seem to recall you dragging your feet over the Gen 3/2014 FJR purchase decision. I pushed you hard on that idea.

Then there was the top box decision. Givi V46 or not? Back and forth we went. I am looking at a text message right now that has a picture or YOUR brand new V46 loaded and ready with the message "I should have done this a long time ago".

This is one of the things friends do for each other. We try to let our mistakes and life lessons be enough to save our friends the time and effort. We get a bit frustrated when they will not follow our expert advice. As I type this I am patiently awaiting your INSTRUCTIONS on what camping utensils/flatware I need to purchase for this trip so that we can try some of your "Primitive Cooking".

There is a finite amount of money that can be invested at any one time. I am working A LOT!!! of overtime right now to insure this trip goes smooth financially. Give me time, be patient.

Worst case scenario, we are all 3 snuggled up for warmth on the side of the road in a big FJRForum group hug. A man's voice says, "My goodness Joey! You sure are nice and warm!"

If that does not make you feel a bit sick to your stomach, I don't really want to go on this trip... I just hope there won't be pics.

Well the pot fits, I'll wear it.

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers, my friend.

Email forthcoming.

Feathers not ruffled. Laughed the whole time I was typing. In case you have not noticed we seem to have a lot in common. This is going to be one hell of a trip. I can hardly wait.

Dear Old Dad sat with me yesterday while we discussed this trip and I showed him some more stuff. He is READY!

I can tell you kind of like the idea of that group hug. Yuck.

You guys sleeping in the same tent or sumpin'?
And if so, is that a Loozeeyanna thing?
smile.png

Will there be electrics involved?

...sick *******s.
biggrin.png
here in da swamps of Loozyanna, we have but 2 rules for sharing our pup tent (or sleeping bag) with another fellow...

1. You can spoon me , but don't try to FORK me!

2. we can sleep hole to hole, or pole to pole, but NEVER pole to hole!

That is all.

There will be no "sleeping together" on this trip. None. End of discussion.

Mr. Hppants can have his damned tent, Pop and I will be "roughing it" in a climate controlled cabin, hotel, or motel. I am willing to pay a few extra dollars for the privilege of having climate control, indoor plumbing, a real bed and a lockable door.

My idea of "roughing it" is sheets with a low thread count and a hotel room with no mini-bar.

Hey guys - what is the current plan of record? With all the talk of canceling, not canceling, and an extremely strange vibe about sleeping/not sleeping plans, I've kind of lost track of the route and schedule. If you're still gonna be in the Utah area or further west sometime between 9/6 and 9/10 I'd like to see if I could meet up with you guys and ride/tour for a couple of days. My company is shut down for the week of Labor Day so I've got the time, just looking for a reason to cross the Nevada moonscape again....

The ride is on, but postponed just a short bit - Redfish Hunter, his Dad (Mr. Redfish), and I are leaving Sept 16th. I don't have to be back at work until October 5th, but I suspect the redfishes will be coming home sooner than that. How long I stay just depends on budget and weather I suppose, but I'm good money wise for at least 14 days worth. As for work, they will just have to do without - I need this and I need it bad.

I'm hopeful that I don't get caught in snow for the high passes before I get home, although I know that its a distinct possibility. The trade off is that I hope to see some of the Aspen trees turning. And it looks like all campgrounds will be much more available.

The loose plan as of now is to leave Louisiana on the 16th

Tucumari, NM on the 18th

Page, AZ on the 20th

Utah (Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands) - Sept 21 - Sept 25

Grand Junction toward Durango - Sept 26 and Sept 27

Then I start heading home.

My bike is almost ready - my seat with with Seth Laam now. Seth promised it back by Sept 1 - otherwise the bike is good. I may end up needing a rear tire before I get back, but for now, I'm planning to leave with what I got.

Need to purchase my National Parks Pass in the next few weeks. R/H and I will go in that together - saves us $40.00. Mr. Redfish enjoys a lush senior discount.

Kind of starting to get pumped up. It's soooooo friggin hot here now, I need something to cling to.

As for "strange vibes" - I wouldn't read too much into it - one always knows Redfish Hunter is joking around if his lips are moving (or his keys are typing).

Just because I never smile does not mean I ain't laughing. My sarcastic nature is never far from the surface and I take most of life as a big joke.

I still refuse to get in the same sleeping bag as Mr. Hppants no matter how cold it gets. I just wish he would stop asking!

Pop and I are both fired up over this trip, I find it difficult to think of anything else right now and I have a lot of stuff going on.

Parks pass was well with it. Didn't figure it up exactly, but I know it saved us over 200 bucks with all the places we went. 40 bucks split is a huge savings. Good plan for sure!!

I have not looked at your entire itinerary but you are 1 day off with Tucumcari NM. I just made our reservations at The Blue Swallow Motel on Historic Route 66 in Tucumcari. We should hit Tucumcari the afternoon of the 17th.

Route 66, here we come!

We should be around Bloomfield NM on the 18th, in Page AZ on the 19th unless we are fortunate enough to make a detour to visit HotRodZilla and waste some time with him.

If "waste time" means "jump into the man sandwich sleeping bag" then I'm out! Haha...

Let me know when your coming and which way you're heading. We'll meet.

RFH is correct - I got my days crossed. This unbearable heat has my brain fried. 7:00 am this morning, 87 degrees, 72% humidity. Holy Cow!!

Anyhoo, here is the revised loose plan:

Page, AZ on the 19th
Utah (Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands) - Sept 20 - Sept 24
Grand Junction toward Durango, Montrose, Cimarron, Curecanti Rec Area - Sept 25 and maybe 26
Back to Louisiana Sept 28 or 29

If I want, I cant take off work the rest of that week, I'm not expected back at the office until Sept 31 edit - October 5. We'll see how the budget stretches. If I've guestimated things correctly, I've got enough budget for at least 14 days without having to put myself in any pinch what so ever. BION - about 10 days ago I had a Deja Vu moment whereby I remembered an envelope of money I stashed in my nightstand drawer and told myself to forget about it. Pretty cool moment.

HRZ - considering the above, I suppose we are going to be looking for you on the morning of Sept. 18, and hope to share some miles with you for at least a couple of days.

Russ - I think this is going to pinch your schedule. I'm sorry for that.

Anyone else - please chime in if you plan to be (or would like to be) in this region during this time. The Redfishes and I are more than willing to adjust any of our plans to meet with you, and truthfully, we'd all enjoy it very much. As either an incentive or a dis-incentive, depending on your inclinations, if you meet with us, you get to be in the ride report!!

No problem - these things are hard to coordinate across a lot of schedules and I was just trying to find an excuse to cross the Great Basin (or wasteland depending on your point of view) again and sponge off of your planning. It sounds like you guys will have a great trip - look forward to following a tracker if you're going to post one, and a RR when you're done

Good luck!

Took a short ride yesterday with my Olympia AST Textile jacket with the vents open just to see if I could stand it. Preparing for a trip with a temperature range of 20-90 is kind of challenging. The vents were "OK", not good, but decent. By the time I got home at about 91 degrees, I was starting to smother, but I think I can manage it. The textile jacket should be much better out west than bringing the mesh.

Well, I took a short ride yesterday as well. 8.5 miles to work last night. I used the First Gear Jaunt I bought on clearance from Revzilla. I may have to order another Tourmaster Transition Series 3 before this trip. It is only money, right?
