I'm meeting some friends in Savannah, GA later this spring and figured I'd ride down (they're flying). My time is flexible. Any suggested must see sights or routes??

Mogan,

I'm about 45 min north of Savannah in SC. Sights to see in Savannah; River Street is the evening hang out area, with lots of historic stuff if you're into that. Check out www.savcvb.com, www.savannah.com, & official savannah guide.

"Good" roads around here are sparce, we are only 6 hours from Deal's Gap, 4 hours to N. Georgia mountains, so that is where we get our "twisty" fix. Headed south, you could venture west out I-81S to Knoxville on slab, then work south via US129 (dealsgap), then 28 all the way from the Crossroads of time (dealsgap) to Clemson, SC. 28 is a good, twisty ride south to Clemson. While in Robbinsville, the Cherohala Skyway cherohala skyway is worth a run as well. Or you could scoot south to Atlanta (jwilly, fjrfencer, jeffashe, & scab can vouch for the roads north of Atlanta) via twisties, then slab to Savannah. How much time you have to kill will decide how far off I-95 you can venture.

If you like fresh seafood, Beaufort, SC is a short run north of Savannah, and has some real good local restaurants. You can't bet fresh shrimp (broiled shrimps, fried shrimps, steamed shrimps, shrimps soup...). We've lived here about 5 years now, love the local chow.

Either way, look me up when you get down this way. Don't have any other feejer's close by, but I ride with a small group that gets out every week; If you decide to detour towards W. North Carolina, it would be easy to talk myself into a couple of days off to go play.

Mogan,

If your planning on hitting the North Georgia mountains let me know and I can make some recommendations. Also if you looking for a place to stay let me know, your more than welcome to use our guest room.

Like Wayne mentioned, lots of history in Savannah. Also lots of tourists.

It's worth swinging a little west to hit the TN/NC boarder. There's great roads up and down for 300 miles.
