We may not see anything from IKE in the way of weather but it sure is effecting the gas. Went into work yesterday at 8am and everything is fine.... Get out at 2300 and the whole area is nothing but cars backed up trying to get gas because of a reported possible shortage...Idiots!!... Now there is a shortage for sure. People around here have paniced! I stopped to fill the FJR this morning.... no line but all the 87 octane is gone. Had to fill up with the next grade up. And of course if you can find gas, the price is climbing through the roof again. Also the station I stopped at had a sign on the pumps limiting you to no more than 10 gallons. I would have to spill 4 gallons on the ground to get my ration. I hope there is gas available for the EOM next week... We may have to stay home! :angry2:

Hey Fubar way up here in Ontario the panic set in about 6pm. They were lined up onto the street. This morning the cost of a liter of fuel went from $1.20 to $1.36. Quick math says it went from $4.80 a US Gal to $5.44 a US gal. because SOMETHING might happen.

Gas is still 3.75 here in Cross Lanes,WV. No panic or lines YET........"Iguess I better knock on wood! See everyone next week!!! :clapping:

I saw on Canoe this morning what happened down in Southern Ontario (1.37/l).. I filled the scoot up last night luckily. This morning, it was raining hard when I left for work so I took the truck - first time in about 2 weeks. Thats when I noticed it was close to suckin fumes. Filled up at $1.27 but the line ups were STOOPID. You can bet it'll be a 1.40/l by noon.

Damn the speculators to hell.

Yea, when Hurricane Charley etc. came through Florida, it was a couple of weeks w/o gas. None of the trucks could get through for a while.

My inlaws called this morning in a panic -- they're in E.TN and all the gas stations they normally go to are out (Wiegels, etc).

Looks like its isolated to the local chains. BP and Chevron (et al) all seem to have gas. It made the Knoxville paper this morning, but no mention of it outside TN far as I can see.

I filled up the truck Monday night for 'only' $3.47 / gallon. The next morning it was, and still is, hovering right around $3.61.

WTF?!

The price of oil is down, fer cryin' out loud. :dribble:

Guess there's a 'worry' about refining capacity.

Hopefully things will be back to normal by next Friday when we head out for Lewisburg. :yahoo:

Can't wait!

Drivers are creating an artifical shortage. My information is that the Coloniel Pipeline, which serves the east coast, is still fulfilling all orders. But everyone is running every vehicle they own in for gas, which causes a shortage, ergo, prices go up. My bike is about empty, but I'll sit on my butt all weekend watching football before I'll sit in line for 45 minutes to fill up. Unless you live in the boonies, gas is up sharply and we have created a shortage.

Just saw the price of gas in Morrison at a BP:.......3.99 $/gal.

Twenty minutes earler in Manchester at a Citgo:..3.61 $/gal.

What a crock!

I thought this kind of nonsense only happened in the northeast. I guess enough of us have moved south to spread the disease.

Well, this AM the gas was 3.75/gal. Now it is 3.85/gal.!!! Good thing I filled up the tank this AM!!!Sheeeeeshhhhhhhh

Panic buying of gas is rampant in Johnson City, Tn. An article in the Johnson City Press Online this pm reported some stations selling gas for $5.50/gal w/ long lines. Police are directing traffic around some stations. WTF is going on?

We went to the movie this pm and saw loooong lines leading into the gas station at Sam's. Couldn't figure out what was going on until I read the JoCy Press Online when we got home.

Wonder what would happen in a real emergency? Scary thought.

Just spoke to a parental unit who was watching the local news and it seems that a city on the way to Charleston is at $4.55/gal right now. If it goes much higher, my broke *** may not make it.

I was going to leave the AUX fuel cell at home... Not now. :glare:

Jwilly, I might be leaving early towards you to beat that swirley ******* IKE... Can you accommodate?

Huge lines here in Eastern NC too.

Weather Channel probably had a lot to do with the panic. They were plastering "17 refineries in the direct path of Ike" graphics all over the tube today. Statements like "As much as 40% of the nation's total oil refining capacity could be affected", and most any other gloom&doom they could sensationalize.

Somebody please remind me WHY I got into the communications business so many years ago! It's embarrassing.
