A couple of friends and I left for a ride at 10 this morning. FJR was showing 81F; when I got back at 3 she was showing 91F and had been for @ 90 minutes and the humidity was up, too. Absolutely NO noticeable radiated engine heat from my '06. On my '03 FJR I wouldn't have even ridden today. Yamahas' engineers did a gr8 job of finally resolving the heat issue.

Actually felt less heat from my FJR than I would from my bare 1200R Sportster. Oh...and she did a fine job of carvinn backroad curves! Plus she got over 37mpg even tho she touched or broke the "ton" numerous times. Quite a bike. DFO :D

I gave it the ultimate heat test yesterday. Riding in Minnesota it was 97 degrees, humid and a steady wind 0f 35mph with gusts to 45mph. It was like driving through a hair dryer. I had my First Gear AIR mesh pants on and Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket. The only heat I felt from the bike was around the ankles.

Oh, and I got 45mpg on the bike, can't believe it, what a great machine.

I was out yesterday and temps were about 86 (+30 celsius) indicated. All was fine until I hit traffic. At about 50 mph there was definite additional heat at left ankle level. Not unbearable, but there, noticeable and almost annoying.

The previous models must have been horrible.

Same down here in ohio. 86 degrees + humidity. Definitly some heat coming off this thing. Feel mine in the inner thigh areas. The difference is that its very warm, but not hot. My st1300 was just plain uncomfortably hot. That was the show stopper for me on the st13. This is more of an annoyance and not near as noticable at speed. Id say it takes me to the brink of my heat tolerance range (am i'm an anti-heat junkie). I cant even imagine what took place on the earlier models. I think yamaha did everything they could given the bikes current configuration. I'm not quite sure why these sport tourers produce that much heat. None of my other 10 bikes i've had throughout my life ever produced that kind of experience.

May be they should take a look at the Concours plastic and see how they route their air through the plastic and over the engine

I've put 1000 miles on my 06 now.

Very big improvement over the 05.

The only heat I can find is on the lower legs....and I'd really just consider it warmth, not heat. My stock 05 was like a blast furnace on the lower legs.

No heat on the tank, upper legs or anywhere in the riders bubble.

Yamaha did there homework.

ONe of the biggest things i notice concerning heat is the effect that the windshield position has on it. when the shield is in the low position, lower leg heat is close to being eliminated. i was expecting less heat on the upper body for obvious reasons, but not inner thigh and shin areas. As the shield comes up, so does the heat on the lower body. It will be very interesting to see how a replacement shield effects this phenomena. I'm waiting for a V stream thats suppose to come out end of june. I'm hoping it doesent pull that heat anywhere but away from me.

I'll second what others have already said... the only place I'm feeling any kind of consistent heat is on my left ankle. I normally wear Chippewa Logging boots which have a layer of thinsulate so its quite bearable. I just notice that it is there more than anywhere elese.

Never rode an earlier model, but I can attest there is nothing like what I've heard described.

best regards!

Heat on the 06 has been handled! On 95+ days I feel some heat if I rest my legs against the tank like usual. Also if I raise the shield up I feel some heat generally radiating upward. So I keep the shield down and knees slightly off the bike. That way I am very comfortable. It works!

yesterday 90+ degrees, the only heat I felt coming off the bike was sitting in line at a seat belt check point. When the radiator fans kicked on I felt warmer air on the ankles and the temp gauge dropped two bars.

When I finally got to the front of the line the nice policeman just waved me on.

 Had more heat from my 05 Honda 600 VLX at lights than from the 06 FJR, ankles keep warm but no other problems in 94 deg heat this week!!

took my 05 for a ride yesterday..finally...

Ok, the tops of my legs were hot....

BUT...

If you want heat, my Harley is way hotter at lights and stops, especially when I rode in Hawaii... dont' even put your legs close to the tranny or the oil tank... some of the old idiots that ride the geezerglides in shorts and tank tops have permanet burns on the inside of their thighs all year...

Yeah, the gas tank gets hot, but that's a good excuse to get a pair of Fox Creek leather pants...<G>

Tempw were close to 90 yesterday, the temp gauge fluctuated between bar 2 and 3...guess the radiator works..

I drilled a couple holes in the shield...maybe I should drill some holes in the fairing! <G>

I agree 100 % we had temps of 97 and 93 over the Memorial Day weekend, My wife and I rode both days and there were no heat issues at all. ;)
