There's always the "Free" option for a tire changer. Okay, it might cost some of you some money to buy the supplies that I had on hand or scrounged at no cost. My tire changer gets inserted in the 14,000 lb rated hitch on my 7500 lb crew cab dually pickup. I don't think it'll go anywhere no matter how stiff a tire is! :clapping:

I got the receiver hitch too and I just put a piece of 2x4 under it.

I ordered the No-Mar JR PRO with the trailer hitch mount. I was real hesitant because I do have the space but like you said above, I didn't want to trip on it all the time. I was also real skeptical that it wouldn't function as good mounted on the trailer hitch compared to mounted on the groud. Well I'm here to tell you it works great mounted on the pickup truck. :yahoo: Plus when I'm done, I just hang it on my garage wall and it's out of the way. The other benefit is when I get a track bike :rolleyes: I can bring the changer with me and change tires on site.
That's definitely interesting.

I have a small SUV. It has a Class-3 hitch, but maximum rated tongue weight is something like 350 lbs.

How much pressure do you think you are exerting on the hitch?

Any concerns about using it on a lighter duty hitch like mine?

I just got a Harbor Freight mailer yesterday, the portable tire mounter and motorcycle adapter are on sale for $49 each right now.

 
EDIT: oh yeah, I've also done the "spoons on the floor" as well as the car rim routine, and I ripped the hell out of the rims on the DL-650. No WAY I'd even think of approaching the rear tire on an FJR with spoons, it just ain't happenin' unless you're a California Governator on steroids with four arms.
You must be a little klutzy, because I do it this way all the time on my FJR, VFR and other bikes and have never even scratched a rim. I just use cut up pieces of milk bottles as protectors.

Are you telling me it's just as easy changing tires on the Feej as it would be on my XR650? Not sure if i want to try this but i would like your expert opinion. I have changed tires on the XR 3 or 4 times front and back. Two people shure does help on know that.

Well, I have never changed tires on your XR650, but I suspect the narrower dual-sport (or dirt) tires are a bit easier to mount since the sidewalls are probably not as stiff and won't fight you as much. That is the only part that is the least bit tricky, getting the opposing side bead to stay compressed and down in the valley of the rim while you spoon over that final bead. But with your experience, a little patience, and an extra hand, it's not all that difficult. Patience is the key.
