Decided to go in and fix my "Ticker" and the project became much more involved than I had anticipated.

Ended up with new heads, new crank, cams (all custom made) ....and a totally custom top-end all together.

...and the short of it is that I now have 2-stroke FJR.

Now major issues with the ECU and getting the ignition and FI in sync, I've got a lot of work ahead of me to get this all straighten'd out ---and fear I may need to go to carbs and magneto-timed ignition (maybe some of you smart guyz have better idea??) .......but at least it's running now.

audio file here for any interested: (CLICKY)

Fuel pump. Definitely. But those custom cams really make a 2 smoker sing, don't they?

Sounds like the aftermath of a beans and tequila dinner.

The intake should sound like wind through the reeds, I was missing the reeds in your recording. How did you sync cyl #1, TDC, on power stroke with your 2 stroke cam's position? Were there any problems doubling the number of lobes on each cam?

Yes, I'm not happy with the intake, and think the whicked webby mod with carb's will help.
good catch on the cams, ..started that route but instead of doubling the lobes I'm just opening one valve per stroke and vice-versa so the end result is the same amount of lobes per cam. Each cam offsetting the other back and forth, just one valve opening per stroke. Make sense?

Geezer: expansion chambers will come down the line ...after I get the ignition and fuel delivery issues figured out.

Radman; Yep, smokes like a norCA indian during harvest season ...but my worn valve guides were causing the same before so no big difference -except the 2cycle oil smells a lot better.

In the 60's there were all manor of ways to get 2 stroke oil mixed and into the combustion chamber. Suzuki used to have Posi-Force oil injection. Now that we are all modern and ****, Yamaha has endowed the FJR with direct oil induction. Most people think it is a flaw but I see you have discovered that it is in fact a cost effective feature. Frankly (not you rad), I like having a 007 smoke screen to disappear behind. The smell of 2 stroke oil always brings me back to the daze of my youth!

It sounds like you are having some preignition and pinging issues. I strongly recommend switching to 93+ octane fuel and adding 2 stroke oil in a 1:4 ratio.
