Tech Day cemented my appreciation for this forum and the members of it. I had poked around the forum doing research but didn't post all that much. I had a cruise control that needed to be installed without skills, tools, or patience to do so. I saw the Tech Day post and sheepishly (heh, sheep) if I would be able to get that done. My expectations were low, I figured I would be laughed out of Bust's garage for bringing nothing to the table, and I even trailered my bike there figuring it would come home in pieces. I was also concerned about sheep, not knowing the history.

Within minutes of arriving, my bike was disassembled. Bust spent most of the weekend helping me put my cruise in. Geek helped me feel better about not having any skills. I was scared to touch anyone else's bike. I watched all the work being done in amazement, thinking that this stuff would cost me a fortune to have a mechanic do it. Here these people are doing it just to help.

The help still amazes me. The last Tech Day, Wayne drove all the way home and back to get a fuel rail (I think that's what it was), which took him a few hours. That was a big help. The bike runs so much better and I never would have known what was wrong without the expertise available.

I try not to miss a Tech Day anymore. I do have wiring skill so I try to use that where I can. I'm also more confident in taking the bike apart than I ever would have been on my own. It's a Pay-it-Forward system and that's awesome.

I know from running the Nighthawk Forum that being an admin or moderator is a thankless job. Members tend to forget the effort that is put in and entitlement starts to set in. To the staff here, I sincerely thank you for making this forum what it is today.

Good gawd the amount of kissing here is making me retch..

Yep it's a good place, but not near as fun as the Wild West Days when this place came to be,

Andrew, Tim, Rad..... Those were the days.

"Not near as fun," you say. Hmmm. that would depend on your definition of fun. I'm not the judge, and I would agree with you that we enjoyed the personalities that frequented these pages and the people we hung with those many years ago. You are not alone in remembering the good old days, but hey, you're still here

But I disagree. There are some great people on the forum now that weren't here years ago, and a lot more of them. And they've brought with them a brand new dimension. I don't know if group A was more fun than group B, but I have throughly enjoyed what they've ALL had to say. I've had a great deal of fun reading these pages as well as adding my 2 cents. But again, it all depends on your idea of fun. To one man, a good insult makes him laugh. To another, a huge sacrifice of time or a great contribution makes him smile. We're all wired differently, wouldn't you agree? I would argue that there's just as much fun going on now as there ever was. For example, ask DesignFlaw06, who just posted above. I would say that he had a great deal of fun just recently. I wasn't even there and I certainly enjoyed reading about the guys who came together to "make his day." The forum has become much larger than it was in those early days. Maybe the fun that takes place now is not as much ON the forum as it is BECAUSE of the forum. But for me, FUN is not just the laughing I do because of what I read on these pages, nor the cackling I do whenever I get together with local forum members. The fun of this forum is all that it has become, the relationships it has helped to create, and the volume of information that it offers. And by the way, we can dig through the archives and look up anything that was said those many years ago, so in a way, "the good old days" aren't really gone. Besides , what's wrong with the good new days? Who's to say that one day years from now, someone will miss that which was found here this week?

I dont post much because i always do a search ( dont want to get yelled at by Iggy!) And find tons of info relating to my concern. This place is a wealth of knowledge. Even tho i sold my fjr this is still my favirite forum and im on it every day. I was able to sell all my accessories here quickly and without a single issue. I feel like i know most of the folks here even tho ive only met a few in person. Looking foward to a gen 3 in the future but will still be on the forum daily!

Just got around to reading the link you supplied in this post. Ugh: hate to confess that there are times I get kinda busy and don't get on the forum much (though most of the time I'm on daily). Such is life. But somehow I missed this particular post you made long ago, not to mention most of the entire thread in which it was found. Anyway, a brilliant piece, sir. I really need to break out of the rut and get out and meet you one-a-these days.

The right goal

We dream up lists of places we'd like to go. We end up all over the country doing so. We list them, we chart them, HA... we even show maps of where we've been. But I think another option might be worthwhile. Instead of just planning a ride to include places we'd like to go, and MAYBE enjoying some of the people we happen to meet, why not plan some rides to include PEOPLE on this forum that we'd like to meet, and MAYBE enjoying some of he places we happen to go?
