Wanted to share that:

My dealer had to order new gauges for my FJR. ('05).

I've had an inconsistent problem since soon after I got the bike.

The gauge needles wouldn't sweep on first start up. After idle, I would

back it up, roll onto the driveway and turn it off. Sometimes, the

gauges would sweep at this point, sometimes not. Sometimes, they

would begin working once the bike got rolling for a few feet.

Bike was checked by techs several times for loose connections,

bad relays, etc. Finally they ordered the gauges about a month ago

and just got them in.

I'll let you know what happens... :(

I have the same problem. But mine is intermittent. It happens about once every 2-3 weeks and mainly when the bike is cold. When I took my '05 in for the 24K valve job, I mentioned this to the dealer and they could not duplicate the problem. However, they documented the complaint and said to bring it back if it becomes more frequent. They said that they filed it also with Yamaha so I am doubly covered, just in case.

At any rate, I have the 4-yr YES warranty so I am not worried. I began to notice the occurence at about 18K miles.

The purpose of the "sweep" is an internal check of correct operation. The needles should always make a complete sweep, if not I would have them checked and replaced if necessary.

I recall TDub had this problem, once he quit using that cheap-ass canuckian Viagra and went back to good 'ol US of A recipe, he had a full sweep goin' agin. Ask him, he'll tell ya I ain't lyin. ;)

I wondered how long it would take until someone posted what we all were thinking. Thanks Rad. Of course, I have no experience to add as in not being able to get it up.
