Funny, when I listen to the containers all I hear is the ocean. Let's turn this thread around:

Has any one had a warranty repair denied if non-Yamaha part number rear drive gear oil was used and documented by the owner, regardless of brand? If the answer is no, there's no reason for anyone to worry about this issue again! I think we would have heard from indignant owners who do their own work by now if this was the case. But they may have sold their FJRs in indignation and bought Harleys out of spite, dropping off the Forum.

Anyone had a rear drive replaced under warranty where gear oil brand/spec was an issue?

I just serviced mine with Mobil 1 Syn. I think people have a tendancy to over analyze oils too much. If you change it regular, you won't have problems no matter what you use! I do like Syn's though!

Hey All,

I hate to resurrect an oil thread but...

Now that you've established that it’s OK to use Mobile 1 Synthetic 75W90 gear oil, is there any reason that I shouldn't change it every time I change the motor oil?

I mean, I like to give the engine a good long time to drain anyway, so why not? A bottle of the M1 only costs about eight bucks and is probably good for at least four changes. Add in a couple of crush washers and you're talking about three dollars per service interval.

Is there any earthly reason that I wouldn't want to do this?

Thanks,

Jim

I also changed to Mobil 1 gold cap at 3500/and gear oil at the same time,,,

why??? because everything I have read in all the threads,,

many, many riders are using this with no problems,,

that is why I am here ,,

to learn from those who have gone there before and and shared what they have experienced,, :good:

I think there is a difference between the two and the engine oil needs to be changed more than the gear. I always change the gear oil but don't think it needs it as much as the engine. They go through very different situations, if you want to call it that. My .02.

Maybe MarkJenn or Jestal or someone can enlighten.

Hey guys by law a manufacturer cannot mandate a certain lubricant unless they give it to you. As long as your choice meets the same specs they cannot deny warranty. All the oils are produced by a few major manufactures anyway to whomevers specs. Yamaha, Harley, Honda, Kawasaki do not make their own lubricants.

I change the gear lube at each oil change, using M1 in both engine and final, and I do it way more often than any of you.

Tell that to VW as they spec out an oil for the TDI engines that is $8 a liter and not availible from anybody but them in North America. It is a 5W40 oil that meets the 505.01 spec. I wish I got it for free!

yo Radman,,

we do not want to know about your personal habbits,,,,, :haha: :haha: :D
