Leesville/Lodoga/CR306/162/32/Black Butte roads and ending at Corning.
From Google street view, the roads look a bit beat up but maintained. Any local opinions on this route would be appreciated...
Leesville might still be sections of gravel and yes it is very torn up.
Leesville to Corning:

There have a lot of dollars thrown at highway projects in the last year, perhaps this has been repaved since the google street view, which are typically 2-3 years old. Anyone ride this route in the last few months?

I would believe the map and say the roads are torn up.

The Lodoga area is part of a big dirt bike area in the mountains around Stonyford a dirt bike area . Lots of gravel and dirt roads. I do not know about Leesville. I would suspect that the closer you get to Corning the roads turn into a pavement for farming trucks typical country roads that have not been paved in many years, so it is a 50/50 choice.

I have not been in that area in several years so at best it is a good guess.

Well you are so close why don't you go look for us like a good fellow............

The three amigos will be coming from (day one) LA to Mill Valley then (day two) Hwy 1 to Skaggs Springs then Clearlake then hwy. 20 will take us easterly to I5 (and north to RedBluff). But we want avoid the slab where possible... Attached is a link to an altenate route we are considering, beginning just west of Williams on Hwy 20, it's:

Ok the three Amigos from Sothern Cal, I checked your route out today And you need to change your first point A . Instead of taking that road you have as point A continue on hwy, 20 until you get to Interstate 5 than head north for for the exit marked 586 when you come to the stop sign turn left you will be going to Stonyford ohv park. Just follow the the road and signs it is the easiest to do about 35 miles from your turn you will dead end in a "T" and that is the town of Stonyford.

Turn left at the stop sign and head toward Elk Creek you are on road rd. 306.

Stay on rd.306 and head toward the town Newville there is one section of gravel road it is 4 miles and the road is in good shape.

About 10 miles from Newville you will run into a "T" it will say to your left it will be rd M2 dO NOT TURN LEFT.

TURN RIGHT and head toward Flournoy This is Paskenta rd. and follow it to Flournoy than you will come to where the road bares to the left it says Paskenta road do not take Paskenta it is also marked A7 it starts out black top but turns to gravel for about 20 miles and ends in Red Bluff

Stay to your right and head toward Cornning you will run into I-5 from there you have about 18 miles to Red Bluff

If you are low on gas Stonyford has gas 3.52/ gal Maxwell some what less

From your route you have posed from the google map it looks like it runs on the peek of the mountain where all the OHV trails go. That is why it is better to take the route I have given.

You will be in the rolling hills cattle country fenced in. Be careful loose gravel in the turns from Maxwell on through out your route..

Weekend rider-

Thanks for the heads-up, really appreciate the info.

Friday we will meet at the Marysville Chevron and head to Red Bluff and stop at the Dennys for a late breakfast or early lunch and to meet more ridersAfter we will ride 36 to 3 then north to Yreka. Dinner at the Black Bear dinner across the street

Saturday we ride 96 to 299 to 3 south to 36 and west to Fortuna.

Sunday we will dine at the hotel for breakfast and head for home via the old Redwood Hwy legget and hwy 1
Having just ridden much of that route just a few months ago https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=116524, I thought I'd throw my 2cents in.

If you haven't been on Forest Rd 1, you might want to consider it. It isn't on Google Maps, but apparently is on some other online maps, is mentioned in Pashnit, and is on paper Road Atlas maps. To get there, from Willow Creek (299 and 96) head west about 10 miles to Titlow Hill road. From there, National? Forest Road 1 {paved, single lane road for ~56 miles) down to Mad River off Hwy 36. Gorgeous views. What I did was ride from Mad River east on 36 to Hwy, then double back for a double-dose of 36 along that route (missing 299 in exchange). My recollection of 299 from many years ago (Concours rally in '98?) was lots of high speed sweepers - I was looking to avoid tickets, so I opted for the absolutely deserted Forest Rd 1 and the tighter, technical 36.

Also, the lost coast south of Fortuna on Hwy 211 - For those that haven't been on it - beware of that road. I was glad I have mountain bike skills. seriously. That road was in bad shape (WAY too many patches on top of patches) - and I wasn't willing to ride under 20 mph for almost 60 miles.

For those riding with a significant other and interested in stopping, I recommend "Inn of the Lost Coast" in Shelter Cove {side note -no cell phone signal (at least AT&T) in town.} I was glad I rode 211, but I doubt I'd do it again. Shelter Cove on the other is a place my wife would enjoy. There is a nice restaurant across the street from the Inn. nice folks.

Have fun!

Richard would love that resturant. They have some of the best fish and chips on the coast.
