Lovely see the Hycles, RogDeb, and SacMike (even though he left his cell phone at home, I still managed to find him... ). Show was very small - only 2 buildings - and not nearly as much after market vendors and farkles to ogle... still had fun. :)

Me too . But I managed to find a pair of coconut boot sox to buy. Lovely seeing you as well, Ty.

Um, yer daughter's kinda HAWT. Is that too creepy to say? 'Course, you are, too. :)

Nice to see friends at the motorcycle show.

Terri got a new helmet and a coupon for 10% off from their website. Lucky for me she did, I got a new helmet on line with the coupon. Coupon is good until 11/27 at www.cruisercustomizing.com code is IMS10.

Terri has a new Shoei RF1100 Corazon TC2 and I got a Shoei X12 Kironari TC2.

Happy November birthdays to us.

Terri's birthday is tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. HYCLE!

Forum member ScooterActivist sent me an email with his take on the San Mateo show and his test-rides.

Thought I'd share, if only to add it as a supplement to the detailed and colorful description from

Sacramento Mike.

(ScooterActivist begins with a bit about his ride on a 2012 Harley CVO Road Glide.)

122 ft-lbs of torque. This thing did haul butt (to an extent) and effortlessly. It was kind of fun in a way.

Comfortable. The vibration was very low frequency, large amplitude, so it was more like riding a tractor

than annoying. Handling at speed wasn't bad, really. It turned effortlessly up to a point and that was when

the wheels didn't want to touch the ground or provide a lot of grip. But up to that point, it was okay.

And it was really lugging at 55 mph. It has long legs, and was quite happy at over 90 mph, but I didn't go much

over 100 because I was worried about CHP. It was really pretty comfortable, feet forward included. The

seat was mostly big and so supported hips as well as butt. But after a bunch of expansion joints, it

was clear suspension was limited.

Wind protection was great. It really works pretty well overall, but I could not see owning one. Shifting is horrendous. Very slow

and awkward with the floorboards and heel/toe thing. The radio was nice but it wasn't getting good reception

so I turned it off.

I signed up for the Versys and the ZX6R before going to the Yamaha line.

The Yamaha guys were painfully slow and I was down to sixth in line before I bailed in order

to make my Versys ride. So no FZ8 or Tenere for Seany.

The Versys was kind of friendly for a while. Great oomph down low and up to 70+. Suspension was nice and comfortable

and handled bumps well. But the bars were too high and it didn't have that direct connection that my SV has, so I could never see

voluntarily gettig rid of my SV and buying a Versys. The gearbox on the Versys was dreadful, almost like the Harley.

The ZX6R was of course light and the engine would kick some butt if you wound it up, but the bars were just too damned

low to have me easily toss the bike around. It was very smooth as far as vibration goes. Gearbox a lot better than the Versys.

And that was all I rode.

They only had two buildings of exhibits this year. Smaller and smaller. The trials guys were fun and

not too long. The Supermoto races were not that good. The riders and track were ...boring. Karryll and I jumped into viewing

in the middle of the thing and three minutes into that, a guy went into a speed wobble and tossed himself up in the air

and dropped down and splatted. We gathered up quickly long before the ambulance came.

The Progressive girls were kids. The Triumph girls were matching but young. The Harley girls were a match for the

Triumph girls. No BMW this year. No Ducati. And we are talking exhibits.

Maybe it is a sign of maturity (or a dismal industry) to walk away from all of those shiny bikes thinking there wasn't

anything I would prefer over my SV.

Harley sent you out alone on your bike of choice. They had arrows on the roads and freeways for over 20 miles

and I got lost so for a while there I was loose on the land with a $30K Harley and they didn't know where I was....or

that I was lost. They were pretty casual about the entire thing.

Too bad they don't sell Suzukis.

And that was my day. The Harley review is below.

Like Ty said, small show but we had a good time. A few pics here for your perusal with words if I feel like it :p

A small new company with a line of trikes. Interesting if you're under 5' tall.

Let's see -- ergonomics .. check! If I wanted to ride to the store and back  and I want to

Then there were the "queens" of the show. Displaying their colors for all with no inhibitions at all.

And not so strangely enough, I could see Deb and I aboard a Spyder one day. We'd still be allowed on group rides huh? ... Tyler is .....

And then there were the stuntah's --- they put on a good show.

That's all I got. Except .. it was good to see Phil and Charlene, SacMike, Tyler, Alberto and Natalie, and an old work buddy/bike mentor of mine .. Peter. Years ago I'd follow him around on his VFR, me on a Nighthawk, soaking up as much info as I could. Thanks Peter.
