FFF tag

PAWelcomeSign_zps68436cf3.jpg
New tag. The "Welcome To" sign for your home state.

I determined my posting trouble was Windows 7 / IE11 related. Downloaded and installed FireFox and all is well.

Not bad, I count 5 Fs in that pic.

You could have just taken a pic of the back of your bike for 3 Fs.

This new state line tag greatly favors us North Easterners where we can cross just about any state line in so little time...

State line sign is a long haul from Miami, FL or Brownwood, TX.

If it sits for a couple of days, I'm less than 30 miles from the state border in a couple of different directions.

Not the Grab

I was just searching for a new plate for my Jeep. It seems that FYYFF has not been taken yet, but I don't think I could slip it by the state without a good explanation.

Well, ya know... I was at the NH DMV site anyway so for giggles I punched in that plate 'number' and it came in as (still) AVAILABLE. If you put in antisocial abbreviations or antisocial words the site will tell you that is not available. What the heck, go for it

It will be easy for an old timer to remember

Yeah, that was what I was doing to check the "initial plates" also. I decided that the spending of an extra $40 a year to have a catchy, memorable license plate number was not that great an idea. That will just make it easier for motorists to remember it after I blaze past them on a double yellow (yeah, in a Jeep?) or some such.

That and the $40 will just about fill the FJR tank twice, which seems a lot more productive use of a couple of Jacksons.

It will also allow me to continue to answer the US border patrol ogres with "I don't know" when asked for my plate number.

Or maybe knowing you have an easy to remember plate will keep your juvenile tendencies in check?

The "welcome to" sign was actually not my first choice.I have a few ideas in mind for future use, this one just happened to be easy on my way home. It kind of eliminates players in Alaska and Hawaii.

Vanity tags are a one-time deal here in PA and only cost $20 so I have them on all my vehicles. The GM at the HD shop I work for had his first choice rejected, 4NIK8.

So ... what's stoppin' ya?

Not much anymore. Just got cleared by my surgeon (this morning) to get back to doin' normal stuff.

As I'm sure you know, that's not likely.

I thought you'd say "The weather."

Though our borders are farther apart, at this time of the year at least the roads are usually passable.

I was google mapping the borders yesterday looking for a target location to snag a state welcome sign. Most of the byways just have a little marker and no "welcome." The big "Bienvenue" to New Hampshire" signs only seem to be on the sides (or worse, medians) of the major interstates, which don't provide much of a safe photo-op stopping situation.

I did find one 2 lane state road that has a smaller welcome sign (at least it did back in 2012) so if the weather relents here long enough for a 1/2 hour ride I could nab this one:

Bienvenue.jpg

But with the rain falling at or near freezing today, that says it will have to wait 'till tomorrow (at least).

Or I could drive there and bring along a motorcycle mirror... ;)

Google maps. Now *that's* smart.

My nearest border crossing is about 130 miles from me, but I'm not sure of signage on some of the smaller roads.

You guys are putting way too much effort into this. So far all of the times I've grabbed the tag and then posted a new tag, I just went for a ride and found something I thought appropriate. For me, at least, that's the point, just ride.

That's what I've done with my challenges. As I'm out riding around I'll see something and think "That'd be good for next time I need something." The chimney without the house was desperation when I was within a mile of my home and wanting to be there before the rain started.

But how are you going to find some of these without putting some thought into it? There's not a cannon sitting on every corner. And before heading for the border for a picture of a sign, I'd like to know it's there.

Sure, the ride is most important, but like many other things the planning and anticipation can be almost as much fun as the actual doing. This being a shared game, I like to have an idea of where I'm going to find what I want, not just to satisfy the old tag but to get an interesting new one. If you just leave it to chance (whatever you happen across) you'll end up with some pretty boring, uninspired tags.

And a few minutes messing with Google Maps isn't all that much effort.

Valid points. I used the whimsical mailbox picture as an afterthought when I needed a tag. Only needed to go to the end of my driveway for that one. It's possible I'm just fortunate that where I live has a lot of historical sites close by and plenty of other odd sights that as a lifetime resident I take for granted.I'm still holding onto a few good ideas for future tags.

Fred, I grabbed these while out on a different game I'm playing on Facebook called the Fire and Ice Winter mini tour. I've been out getting pics of my bike and flag in towns with names related to fire or ice. I've been using Google maps quite a bit.
