Averaged .5" of ice here in Southern Maine. Less at coast.

Thanks to all of our lineman workers visiting from the Maritimes. Big convoys on the highway. Much appreciated.

On a positive note, hit 54 degrees today and took the bike to the bank.

There are still about 25,000 people without power in the Albany area, down from 280,000 on Saturday. Most of the emergency shelters are closing and things are returning to normal.

You folks keep warm. I can't imagine. Then again I'm living in the 2nd most expensive county in CA and can't afford another tank of propane so I'm a full time wood burner. Hey, gasoline or propane? No contest mi amigos..

Come to think of it we havn't herd from FredW in a couple of days. All rain down here in southern Massachusettes. I don't miss the NH weather. We lived there for 25 years. I talked to some of my friends in southern NH and they are saying it will be a week or two before they

get there power back. Both have generators and are doing fine. Sometimes I am glad i am a flatlander, usually during the winter.

Good luck Ionbeam and I hope you get your power back soon.

It's amazing how damaging that ice is, yet how beautiful everything looks with its "glass" coating.

Believe it or not I've been through that, as far south as I live. Jan or Feb, I think '78 or '79, when I was in school at Auburn. The school's stage theatre group was putting on "South Pacific" (of all things) and my date and I had to walk almost 2 miles because I wasn't going to drive. Campus never lost power or utilities, but much of the area did. Street lights were white at the time, not yellow, and the light-scattering effect in the iced-over trees was just plain gorgeous.

Of course a property owner with damage or a resident with no heat or power is going to have a difference in appreciation of the spectacle.

Hi Alan I have been doing gen services for a week now friends and family up in the hard hit areas People just don'nt get it ,you have to run these things on a regular basis so when you DO NEED them they run!! hope all is getting better let me know if you need anything

And just in time for the weekend, another storm forecasted for MA and southern NH tomorrow. Not ice though; a nice blanket of heavy wet snow instead. Don't put away the generators yet.

Guess it time for Sta-Bil in the FJR gas tank.

Alan,

We got back up yesterday. Now cleaning up the collateral damage. Let me know if I can do anything for you.

Dan

Not sure what I can do to help, but happy to try if there's anything one needs from the Boston area. I have a generator I could loan if needed. You've reminded me that I need to start it again. I've done so pretty religiously every 3-4 months, though, so have pretty high confidence in the thing.

Good luck up there. I guess we're supposed to get 6-8" tomorrow here. The kids will be delighted.

Rode the bicycle to Redmond today. Seattle got it easy, 2" of snow or thereabouts. Mercer Island was pretty heavily snowed in, getting up near the 6" mark. Redmond and Bellevue ended up with about 7" of snow each; I knew that riding around was probably not going to be easy when every time I pushed the pedal down I was covering my feet with snow.

Apparently some of the crazy guys i work with did the zip tie + tire trick and rode in to work.

Well, I just spoke with PSNH and they say that I can't expect my power back before next Monday at the earliest (12/22). This is beginning to get old. The weather man is promising up to a foot of snow today and another 4-8 inches on Sunday. At least I don't have to worry about losing my power ;)

Sitting at Logan airport as I type this. Snow predicted to start around noon. My flight is scheduled to leave at 12:40. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Fingers are crossed Randy. This storm looks like it's going to be a good one up this way. They started calling off school for today yesterday afternoon.

Just a quick check in. It looks like we will be without power until the end of the week. The temperatures didn't drop like they were predicted. We in good shape with our generator and now gas is available. There is a ton of clean up work that needs to be done.
I still haven't heard anything from the local FJR guys.

Sure looks familiar. Power went off Thursday night of the storm around 9:00. 7 days later, we got it back. Luckily I owned a 4KW generator that I bought years ago. Kept the house warm, a few lights, fridge and the well pump running.

Bumping this, because we're due for another one. WSDOT just issued an ice storm warning between Vancouver and Seattle, for the exact moment we're supposed to be going through there.

Take care and stay safe...

Thanks...was a horrible trip, but, made it home. Just barely. I heard they started grounding a bunch of flights immediately after we took off. 6.5 hrs in the airport. what a great day.

This was weird: I was outside with the kids at about 5:40. It was snowing and blowing like mad. Dark, cloudy, very low visibility. Yet I heard jets either landing or taking off from Logan. Must've been pretty sporty flying!

Here in Salem, I've got about 8" of snow so far, and we're destined for more.

The FJR is resting, but the Ariens snow blower is going to get some much needed work tomorrow!
