If you are ever up my way (Vermont) I'd love to ride with you. IUonbeam and CharlieHoss both know me and have ridden with me. Have fun and stay safe.

As I'm only a few months younger than Shawn, I have also been surprised by the average aged FJR rider. I guess especially since around my area they must give Harley discount coupons with AARP memberships.

I did learn one thing at EOM last year - older DOES NOT even remotely mean slower.

You know, whether its owner is 43, 23 or 63, I've started to notice that this bike gets a lot of attention.

I parked right up close to the front of the minor league ballpark at Manchester the other day (Fisher Cats vs. Trenton Thunder {my second cousin plays for the Thunder}), and had about four comments from random strangers. One guy in his 50's simply walked by staring like he was seeing a beauty in a short skirt. Then I see him mouth inaudibly to himself "Niiiiiice bike!"

Feels more and more like I made a great choice with this thing.

At 6'4", though, I'm discovering that I've got to get the taller windshield on, and maybe get the footpegs lowered.

Btw, anyone heading south on 93 on Sunday from Manchester at 1-ish? Thought sure I'd seen at least one FJR, maybe two, though couldn't tell the color in odd shadows, passing at a closing speed of 140 or so.

Not me. I came through there on Monday at 10am...

Coulda been me.

Definitely not me. I was out and about on Sunday. Put on around 250-300 miles, two up, and all "in state", and I live only 3 miles from the I93 section you speak of. But you'll seldom catch my bass boat blue butt out on I93. Yuck. Gimme the back roads any day...

Zip, you should come up for a Portland SeaDogs game. Red Sox affiliate, don't you know!!!

I'll be up there soon... the Thunder have at least one more visit there, so I'll certainly catch a game or two up there. Great little stadium, and yep - the good guys' farm system.

Zip,

That would've been me. Was on I-93 for a bit trying to pick up a bit of time from the back roads (was still late, but who cares!) Not sure, but I believe I was solo when you spotted me, cuz I had broken off from my other two riding companions to get home ASAP to pick up the kid. But I thought I had spotted a blue fjr heading north. Was too intent on watching the road/traffic since it was heavy and I was in a hurry. But definitely the right time/place and right direction. Pretty sure it was me, sir. BTW, when do you get a chance to rome freely for the day?

Hi Zip,

I live next door in Marblehead and know how you feel. I am a new rider since April this year and found a great bunch to ride with. You might want to check us out at www.northshoreriders.org. We get together every week after work for a nice ride on the North Shore and grab a bite to eat. All kinds of bikes, men and women, young and old, new and experienced, but it's all about having fun, being safe, and exploring our neck of the woods, with monthly forays within New England. We are having our annual BBQ this Sunday July 13th at Cycles 128 in Beverly from 11 to 4. You're herewith invited to come on over and see what you think over some food and good music. Meet some fellow bikers here in the area and I'm sure you'll find someone to ride with or maybe even consider riding with us. We'd love to welcome new riders to our group.

You know, I'd started to notice that the FJR crowd was a bit more, well, "experienced."
You can say it - they average FJR rider is old (I wonder why that is?). But there ain't nothing wrong with getting old. It sure as hell beats the alternatives...
Just a guess but in my case I wasn't throwing around $10K+ for a ride. I was however riding my 750 Vulcan to work in Boston 9-10 months a year. Barry, I'm down near Milford on 495 but let me know when you are out 'n about on weekends - Same for anyone else. Early works for me too before the young 'uns are up.

Finally, a potential break in the weather...

Anyone interested in a short ride early Saturday morning? I intend to leave Salem by 6:30 or earlier and ride north towards Newburyport or even Portsmouth. There's a lot of countryside and coastline up there I've never seen. I've got to be back in Salem by about 11:00 or noon, though, so will be heading south again at whatever halfway point puts me back at that time.

Drop me a PM or post here if you're interested, and please feel free to suggest a rendezvous spot if you want to connect.

Hope to see you Saturday!

Barry

Hi Barry,

6:30 or earlier Saturday morning would work for me, that way I can get back earlier too. Lot of honey-do things and errands to run both Saturday and Sunday. I don't know where you live in Salem, but can meet you anywhere. Let me know where and when and I wouldn't mind being back by 10 or 11.

Frank

Hi Barry,

I sent you an Email with a potential meeting place, the McDonalds at Rt. 1 and 133 in Rowley. Awaiting your reply.

John

Hey, we got enough FJR biker scum in Newburyport (so far only me, that is). JKJK

I'd take a ride with you guys, but tomorrows calendar is already full unfortunately. Glad to see more FJR riders on the north shore.

Are you aware that the 1A bride in Newbury (Parker River) is out?

Have Fun.

Come on guys, have a little class and pass up McDs and go across the street to the Agawam Diner.

Not only is the bride out, the bridge is closed too. ;) (Good of ya to warn the guys!)

Have a great ride, yet more rain is coming on Sunday.

Yeah, I thought of the Agawam, the problem is, the parking lot will most likely be full at 7:00am. B)
