Sherri told me that after today it is going to rain for a week. Something about that news made me want to enjoy the partly cloudy day on my FJR. Blame me? I took off for a solo ride. Living in Orangevale, I hopped on Madison Avenue Eastbound and took it through Folsom, and got over to Blue Ravine Road which took me to Salmon Falls Road.

Salmon Falls starts out lazily meandering through foothill properties. Here is my first pic of the day in a nice flat meadow that was wonderfully green, had this nice bend on a rise and an oak tree with some character.

While I was there I heard a sportbike coming so I got ready for the shot. I didn't meet this guy on the R1, but he waved.

Here his is with some zoom applied:

A few turns and hills later I came up to the American River which is running high due to all the snow and rain of late. Here are some shots of the river, my bike and some other riders who were resting in a parking area by the river.

Salmon Falls is a great road. It has great views, lush greenery and is fun to ride.

There were a tremendous number of HD's out today.

see next post for more

When I got to the gas station where Salmon Falls intersects with Hwy 49, I stopped for a few cups of coffee and converstation. There were 3 Kawi 636's and a new Ninja 600 with the fancy new exhaust can. I liked em all. I want more bikes!

Here are a couple of guys from Roseville:

I like the 636's red wheels and the Ninja's exhaust is down low on the right in front of the rear tire

A custom chopper parked next to the FJR but left soon as the FJR looked too good.

Can you guess the tire brand this guy likes?

an R1 dropped by too. In short, a whole bunch of bikes for two quick cups of coffee worth of time.

more to follow...

From the intersection of 49 and Salmon falls I decided to go down 49 to Cool where I turned right on 193 to go see if Fast_Far was hanging out on the street in Georgetown. Nope...so I rode through and decided to go see the snow on Wentworth Springs Road.

It was overcast and quite a bit colder up here as compared to 49

There was a lot of muck on the roads as you can see in this pic

Snow was falling while I was there! See it on my seat?

more to come...

193 has sections where I swear there must be 4 to 5 S turns strung together. It reminds me of the slalom in skiing. You go down 193 to the American river and getting there rocks, going up the other side is incredible too.

Nice hairpin turn on the way down to the river

One turn had a lot of water that really slowed down this R1200ST

Great road!

That's all, I put the camera away after this, did another 60 miles to get a grand total of 189 miles on a great day!

Sweet! Thanks J & O! I'm thinking of scooting up a day or two early for the Occidental lunch ride. I think I just found the route! :D

TWN, all that area between Placerville and Auburn has some really nice roads. We who live in this area are quite spoiled (or blessed).

O'vale, had a great day in the saddle, huh! Nice pictures.

Spent a week in northern Ca last Sept. Unbelieveable riding. We rented Electra Glides at Folsom HD-great guys. Had Pashnit work up a route, used frequent flyer miles & flew out from VA and still talk about a great trip. Count your blessings you live in a great place to ride.

Yup. We riders that ride out here are spoiled by great riding and year round riding (in comfort). I think it might even make me stay!
