Not a problem for the FJR

It is a problem on the FJR. I've gassed 3 or 4 times in one day and after the 3rd, card no worky. So, I have to pay cash or use another card. Chevron will sometimes block all my cards. Pays to keep some cash with you at all times.

If you're filling 3-4 times in a day, perhaps it's time you looked into fuel cells. Having the longer range also helps to avoid the too many transactions in a day limit some cards have. With 11.4 gallons on board I routinely see 500 miles before reserve. I've never had a problem getting a complete fill either. The only time Chevron cut my account off was when I filled all three tanks on my '70 C20. 55 gallons of gas in Alturas, CA - $170! Ouch. Funny part was I got home on that gas and only then realized there was an issue because Chevron left me a phone message about my account and asked me to call them back. They now know that that kind of fill is unusual, but acceptable for my account.

Good point about the aux cell, but I use the gas stops to stretch and shake the cobwebs out. 250 miles is a good comfort range for me. 10 mins and I'm back in business for the next 250.

Part of our pre-flight plan for a weekend trip, or longer is to send an email to the Credit Union. If they know that we're traveling to 'foreign parts' on the bikes, they will not lock out the frequent gas purchases. It's not such a big deal now that we have bikes with bigger tanks but when Andy rode his Warrior, we had to fill up every 100 miles or so.

Funny thing is, I use my Discover Card for all gas purchases and they know my purchasing habits and travel range. Even they shut my card down for gas (but not other purchases, strangely). So, I dunno. I'll just keep good ol' greenbacks in my pocket.

Agree with you about using discover. WHile Chevron or shell may shut you down at the pump, all Discover has ever done is to ask me to call them to verify purchases.

Sure, everyone has their comfort zone. Nothing wrong with that. Something I forgot to mention with gas cards. I had Chevron send me 3 additional cards. They are individually numbered, (one digit different at the end), and show up on my bill as seperate users under my account. Typically I keep a card in my jacket for the bike use, with the wallet card being used for the cage. Chevron has told me that if they shut down one card for my account, the others will usually be fine, unless they see the same unusual activity repeated. What I used to do on longer trips is simply rotate the cards. Even between the two on the FJR, I never got cut off. With the higher prices now, perhaps a three card rotation would be better?

On the paper side, it's kind of nice to see all the bike gas separated on the bill. It shows me how much riding is costing, or saving me, depending on how the month went. :)

Ooh, extra cards... No there's an idea! I'll check that out, thanks!

any issues with the exxon/mobile speedpass?

i know it's often a few cents more expensive per gallon, but for less hassle, i'd be all in...

I've got Chevron, Exxon/Mobil, and Shell company cards for my work truck and typically take 25-30 gallons. Chevron is the only one that doesn't cap it at $50.00 at the pump so I try to only stop at Chevron stations.
