Returning from WFO heading up Hwy 101 in Cal at a decent clip, came around a sweeper just to see a Golden Eagle launch from my side of the road, I swung into the left lane and ducked down behind the lowered windscreen. Missed him by about a foot according to Kasey who was following behind me. Now that would not have been pretty.

We should re-name this thread "Animal Stories."

A few years ago I went for a ride on a VERY HOT day, and thought about not wearing my jacket, but decided it was better to sweat than bleed. Sure enough, just as I was starting to push my V-Max over the 130 MPH mark a black bird came up from the side of the road and I caught him square inthe shoulder. Blood, guts, and feathers all over my jacket, but I just ended up with a nasty bruise.

BTW does this count as an impact that requires retiring the helmet?
Prof, I wouldn't.

You want to retire your helmet only after an impact that may have damaged its structural integrity.

In fact, a few weeks ago my full-face Arai was hanging from the LH handlebar as I was talking to some friends on the roadside.

Because of a freak increase in the earth's magnetism :p , it slipped down and hit the pavement (it bounced a couple times, too...). Aaaargh! :angry03: :angry03: :angry03:

A long list of expletives later I thought about retiring it and concluded that the impact had been too light to justify such a drastic/expensive measure. I would guess that the mass that hit Steve's Shoei never even came close to weakening it structure --- man, a helmet made of several composite layers is a tough little SOB
