I'm digging through some great threads on Nova Scotia trips.

Couple specific questions:

-- looking for input from riders that know what the weather is likely to be mid June (leaving June 13th from Chicago, looking at looping most of NS, then back)

-- and, input re: how easily we can (or cannot) get accommodations on the fly, as it is really hard to predict where we'll be, and when

Thanks!

Mid June during a 'recession' . . . hmmm

You shouldn't have any issues with hotels given the time of year you'll be there.

As to weather . . . if you don't get rain, it ought to be spectacular - relatively cool days on average with daytime highs in the mid-to-high 60s. You ARE on the ocean.

Thanks. I just had a "planning" breakfast with my riding buddies. We're trying to figure out how likely it is or is not to be rainy and foggy. I had heard that mid June was one of the drier and less foggy times on Nova Scotia, but maybe i'm just having wishful thinking. Do you know how prevalent rain and fog typically is in mid June?

thx,

We did Nova Scotia in early June in 1996 (man, I feel old, now). We took the overnight ferry across from Portland. It was a little cool, not too rainy, or misty. I think I only donned rain gear a couple times. Much less than the year before on the BRP in July with t-storms every day.

Wind out on the tip of Cape Breton Island was pretty fierce, as two bikes got blown over at an overlook, no lethal damage, luckily. Wind coming across New Brunswick was even worse.

We did mom and pop motels along the way and found them as we needed them. The tourist season really hadn't started, so rooms were not a problem anywhere. Lobster every day was a nice part of the itinerary.

Thanks. What is the BRP?

Only THE most awesome road in the east. Blue Ridge Parkway. Everyone that rides, should check out the BRP, from The Skyline Drive, in VA. to the Smokey Mtns. in N. Carolina, at least once in their life. I love that road.

Ah, got it. Actually, I did it in a convertible once. Flew into Knoxville and drove to Asheville. Did the parkway on the return. Coincidentally, the other 3 guys I'm going on this trip with are debating Nova Scotia vs a southeast loop that would include the Smoky's. We live in Chicago, so the choices we're weighing include get to NS in two days, ride it for 4, then get home in another 2. OR, go south / southeast through the Carolina's, down south a bit, then back west, then up north through Missouri and possibly the Ozarks.

thanks for the input.

We are also looking to do Nova Scotia in June. We will be camping most of the time. So look out for a black FJR with CT plates.

You may want to check out EOM this year in September, will be held in Johnson City, TN. Nice roads there as well...

Hi Steve,

The weather here should be fine here in mid-June but note that I said 'should'. We are along the coast so weather happens. This is a great place to ride. Some of the roads have taken a shit kickin' the past few winters. There is an election in the wind though so the highway crews are out in full force. :)

I will tell you that 4 days is not very long to ride the coasts of NS. You might want to concentrate on Cape Breton and eastern NS. If you would like specific help planning drop me a PM.

I've been up there twice in June. first time it was great....no rain and very warm durning the day (we were told that it was not that warm as a rule that time of the year). Went again a few years later in June and it rained almost the whole trip and was very cool...not real cold but with the wet weather it sure felt pretty cold at times (had a great trip even with the weather..we went on over to Newfoundland and Labador).
